Today we went through the student's online timed assignment. He still has one assignment left, but he did well on the assignments we were able to get through. Initially, he had some difficulty with finding the median class interval, but by the end of the session, he seemed to grasp the concept. Overall, he did a very good job today.

Tutoring review by Emin in Leonia, NJ
The student showed me the problems I had given him last time, all completed. Out of 23 problems, he only got 2 wrong, and in any case they were a bit difficult, being long and involving all sorts of fractions. Today I found out that he'd learned about systems of equations in school, and so that's what we went over. I guided him through several (made up) example problems, then watched as he attempted more on his own, and did everything correctly. He is being prepared for algebra, and is doing very well. He seems to like algebra much better than geometry.

Tutoring review by Kelly in Leonia, NJ
Today the student didn't have any homework in any subject, so we did a little bit of writing and spent the rest of the time on math. Since the state exams, the student says they have done mostly reading on their own at school, so I continued to work on word problems with him, again using problems involving unit conversion so that it forces him to slow down and read the question. As far as writing, I would like to get him to write every once in awhile, as the only way to get proficient at writing is to practice, practice, practice. We started with an easy exercise by writing about something is interested in, and did this for just a short time before we focused the rest of the time on math.

Tutoring review by Kelly in Leonia, NJ
We spent the first half doing some algebra review. Her general understanding has improved greatly. We then switched over to begin reviewing the writing section of the SAT. We discussed how to approach the different types of questions and began to review the most common grammar errors seen on the SAT. We worked on a few practice problems.
