Tutoring review by Sherri in Hampstead, MD
Both students worked on reading comprehension. We read a passage from their reading comprehension book. As we read the passage they looked for the main idea, definitions based on context clues, and inferences to identify within the passage. We worked on answering the multiple choice together and discussed strategies for eliminating the incorrect choices. They also used a website to play grammar games about sentence structure. Student A and I also worked on adding and subtracting negative numbers. For homework, she was assigned more negative integer examples, reading comprehension and a persuasive essay to write. For homework Student B is working on reading comprehension.

Tutoring review by Christopher in Hampstead, MD
The student and I began by reading an assignment from social studies on the Chesapeake Bay. He tends to rush through when he reads, so I encouraged him to slow down and think critically when he goes through a text, taking the time to absorb the information presented. We then reviewed his math homework, which focused on the area and perimeter of a rectangle. He was able to find the answer when he plugged the numbers into the formulas, but he struggled a bit with the abstractness of the concept of formulas. I tried to explain to him the meaning of a formula and how it can be applied. We did some extra work on area and perimeter to boost his skills in that area.

Tutoring review by Lichuan in Hampstead, MD
My client wants to learn reading and writing. She already speaks pretty good Chinese and knew Pinyin. So today I introduced the 4 tones and a famous Chinese poem to her. The focus is to understand the rhythm in reading and try to find out the beauty of this language. I also gave her some homework. Based on the discussion today, we've agreed on the topics for the next few sessions.
