Tonight the student and I covered volume between curves, which is the new topic that his class will be covering. We discussed the relationships between the radii and the set up of the integrals, along with the idea behind the volume of the objects themselves. We plan to continue discussing this topic on Wednesday, after his derivative/integral test involving natural log, which he has on Monday. Good luck to him!

The student and I covered some free response questions. We focused on Euler's method and infinite series. Euler's method was not difficult but took a few practice problems to get the hang of it. Infinite series went very well and we'll continue to practice them on Monday.

We went over the reading, quantitative, and vocabulary sections of an ISEE exam I had assigned her over the summer break. The student has really focused on improving her vocabulary skills. The flashcard idea has helped her a lot. She received above a 75% in each section, with math being her highest score. She still needs to passage map to help narrow down to the answer which corresponds to what the question is specifically asking. I assigned her two passages to map for the next session as well as an essay, so that we may work on grammar and essay structure. In the math section she was introduced to two special right triangles, the 30-30-60 and 45-45-90 right triangles and their rules. Memorizing the math rules will help her get to answers much more quickly on this timed exam.

Today we worked on homework and a little bit of science fair project research. We started with 2 social studies worksheets. These were simple worksheets with a reading passage and a few comprehension questions following. We then moved to math. The student was tasked with printing game cards for class. She had to come up with equations, solve them, and print them onto the cards. She also typed her first draft of her personal narrative. It was a relatively simple day. We finished talking about her science project, and I showed her a YouTube video of the experiment I thought would be good to reproduce and vary.
