Tutoring review by Joe in Dolton, IL
We continued some of the work we had done during our previous session. This included work on partial fractions and trigonometric substitution. We also did some review on L'Hopital's rule, uv-substitution, u-substitution, and solving systems of equations with two and three variables. The student has a quiz coming up today, so we will see where he is at after that. Otherwise, I am looking forward to meeting with him again on Monday.

The student and I went over Rolle's theorem and shells theorem. We spent most of the time reviewing and doing a lot of sample problems. He didn't seem to have such a hard time with the concepts. Also, we went over some cross section problems; most of which he did very well on.

Tutoring review by Tejas in Dolton, IL
The student worked on her math homework which focused on finding the square and square roots of the number. She had a hard time with this concept so I tried to go back to tell her the concept of the squared number. Once she was able to understand the material, she understood the word problems. I am a little concerned with her background knowledge so I will work on making sure her foundation is intact moving forward. I also helped edit her English poem which focused on something in her life that makes her very happy.

Today we discussed summarizing differences in proportions of primate grooming behavior across sexes and reproductive states, then proving the significance of those differences. We will work on producing summaries of the observations in the form of box plots and tables. We have performed t-tests to establish validity of differences in the proportions. Also, we are looking to compare the counts of grooming behaviors to total number observations in each given reproductive state, rather than to total number of observations of grooming, to better reflect the relative proportions of females in a particular reproductive state.

We revised the student's early action essays, building on drafts we'd looked at in earlier sessions. This included mostly line edits, since we made larger content changes earlier on. She will make some final edits and submit her essays before Nov. 1.
