Tutoring review by Vanessa in Collinsville, OK
Today we reviewed for the upcoming assessment test. The student had a positive attitude. We went over angles (interior, exterior, triangles), transformations, surface area, and volume. We worked problems in a review packet that was provided by her math teacher. She did well on the concepts and needed a refresher on only a few topics. We went over several strategies, such as solving the problem before looking at answer choices. I also helped him solve quadratic equations by taking square roots.

Tutoring review by Melissa in Collinsville, OK
This was my first session with the student so we went over her math homework. We did several different exercises that included long multiplication and division. She is very quick and naturally smart but I noticed that when it came to word problems, she has a challenge with writing down her thought process and it shows in her answers. So I gave her some guidance in reference to identifying the "call of the question" first, identifying key terms and focusing on those particular terms in getting to her answer.

This was a productive session. The student had a high-stakes homework set that he worked through. We used the problems to build understanding and skills in solving one-dimensional kinematics problems. I then helped him with a calculus set, then showed him some aspects of position-time and velocity-time graphs.

Today we covered how to use a graphing calculator and how to find minimums, maximums, intersections between two functions, and all the zeros. I advised the student to play around with the calculator's functions so she could familiarize herself with it. We went over a couple of graphing and word problems and were able to understand how to solve for the right answer.
