Tutoring review by John in Abingdon, VA
The student and I practiced several math problems using the method. The student scored about 80% correct on the problems he did during our session which I corrected and then reviewed the items with him that he got incorrect. The student understood his mistakes and overall did an excellent job. I left him 15 practice problems for homework. I told him to carry down the parentheses, if any, in the problems to help him avoid future mistakes. I look forward to our next session.

Tutoring review by Nicolette in Abingdon, VA
The student and I went over logarithmic functions and exponential functions. At the beginning of the session, it was difficult for her to see the connection between the functions. As we applied the ideas to actual examples, the student understood the material. I believe that breaking down problems into steps that she can apply to all problems helped. This is a problem solving technique that we will continue to use.

Tutoring review by Samuel in Abingdon, VA
In this session, most of the math we worked on had to do with addition, although the problem types were more diverse than the subtraction work we did over the last couple of weeks. The early homework problems involved adding numbers with pictures of counter blocks to help calculate the answer, but quickly moved away from this approach. Some problems asked the student to break down each individual number into its own addition problem (e.g.: 38 become 30+8), and others presented basic addition questions as word problems, and others were straight forward addition questions. As in past sessions, the student's focus and accuracy improved over the course of the hour. In the beginning, he didn't quite remember the rules for addition (specifically for "carrying the one"), and he would lose track of his counting. By the end of our time, however, he had gotten the hang of carrying the one, and was focusing more on his calculations, which were much more accurate.

In this session, the student and I continued to study for his upcoming SSAT. We went over some questions he had on problems he had worked on since our last session- they were generally word problems. We worked on breaking down the problems into manageable chunks. Next we went through another practice section, focusing on graphs and equations of lines.

Tutoring review by Taylor in Abingdon, VA
The student is progressing nicely. I like that she was able to complete the majority of her homework before our appointment. She saves the difficult questions for me, which makes our sessions much more efficient. Her class is covering material that I taught her previously and now it comes easy to her. I like to keep her slightly ahead so that she doesn't have to figure out new material on her own. She got a 7/10 on a quiz last week. We went over the quiz and she understands her mistakes. Quizzes and tests are the best references for midterms and final exams so I prioritize her competence with those problems. She told me that her goal is a B in the class but I think an A is well within her capacity.

We went through practice material for the student's upcoming calculus test. He understands most of what we went through. We solved systems of equations with 2 and 3 variables. We also went through matrices and matrix manipulation.
