Tutoring review by James in Wharton, NJ
This was the student's 23rd tutoring session. It was very successful. We began exploring how to calculate the volume of prisms and cylinders. He also discovered, through trial and error, how volume changes as dimensions change. He was able to see the connections between one dimension, 2D, and 3D. He successfully navigated through many problems and picked up speed as he completed his assignment. Once again, we spent some time focused on research for his History paper. Great work!

Tutoring review by Sam in Wharton, NJ
Today we worked with triangles, squares, and rectangles. We also worked on using the Pythagorean theorem to find missing side lengths of triangles as well as squares, using the diagonal. We worked with finding the areas and perimeters of all three shapes. We also worked on using trigonometry to fill in missing information on triangles. Noah has a very strong understanding of squares and rectangles. He got every problem correct. Overall, he did very well. He has a strong understanding of the material and a positive attitude.

Tutoring review by Eunki in Wharton, NJ
The student had a quiz the next day on complex numbers, factoring, and the quadratic formula. She mostly needed help on using the quadratic formula and the application of it in the real world, specifically on trajectories. I emphasized that the best way to get better on new material is to do more practice problems. Once we went through enough practice, she felt much more comfortable with the material. We spent whatever time we had on learning about trajectories and how the quadratic formula is used to illustrate this mathematically as well as how she will be tested on this knowledge. It isn't likely that this would be tested on a short quiz, but we figured that it would still be worth knowing in the future for when she sits for the chapter exam. Overall, she seemed more at ease and more confident in her understanding and ability to solve these problems.

Tutoring review by Ramon in Wharton, NJ
For the first session, the student and I covered the basics of derivatives and limits, including the associated definitions and rules. She has a test coming up, so we went over the topics that may be on there. I explained some of the background of calculus and the uses for it, and we went over example problems from the textbook. She seems very willing to learn even the basics in order to strengthen her understanding. I left her with instructions to look over what she has done both today and in her notes, and to do as many practice problems as possible. The key to learning any topic in math is to immerse yourself in it and analyze as many relevant examples as possible.

Tutoring review by Alla in Wharton, NJ
I worked to get the student ready for an upcoming test in Geometry. He completed a HW assignment and review sheet on isosceles triangles, Pythagorean Theorem, Pythagorean triplets, and triangle inequality. The problems presented involved a wide variety of triangle, rectangle, and trapezoid shapes, so the same solving skills were required to be employed in flexible ways; this seems harder for him, but he persists in solving the problems. We also briefly reviewed simplifying square roots, and solving area problems embedded in application scenarios (word problems).
