Tutoring review by Timothy in Vallejo, CA
Today the student and I did a review for his test tomorrow. We went over inverses and asymptotes and polynomials and graphing mainly. He is definitely getting faster at this math skills. I think he has been practicing on his own quite a bit. As always, he is well prepared with lots of questions which makes my job easy. He also seemed well rested today which is good as well. I gave him some tips for his test tomorrow. Progress is good.

Tutoring review by Anna in Vallejo, CA
The student and I started by reviewing how to simplify, add, and subtract radicals with indices greater than two. We did 6-7 practice problems that went over Wednesday's material, and she did very well with those. She is really quick and competent at factoring and simplifying the number portions. The variable parts are a little tougher to get, but she always arrives at the right answer at the end. I've said this in the past, but she is good at recognizing and correcting her own mistakes, usually with little to no prompting from me. We finished with going over how to multiply and divide radicals, and did several practice problems of each. She got this quickly too, but we will definitely do some more review with these two topics on Monday.

Today, we covered how to solve limits of functions using substitution, factorization, trigonometry and the squeeze theorem. Areas to focus on for the student are factoring polynomials with a starting coefficient, factoring cubed functions, unit circle, trig identities, trig limits and the squeeze theorem. She was very willing to learn the material and refresh pre-calc that she had learned more than two years ago. I recommended that she write out how she solves problems and go slower so that she doesn't make any math mistakes. I'm pulling together practice problems and emailing them to her. She has a test coming up next Friday and hasn't gotten much guidance from her teacher about what concepts will be on it.

Tutoring review by Elnora in Vallejo, CA
The student and I completed Chapter 7, and moved on to Chapter 8, which covered the concepts related to the effects of taxes upon buyers and sellers, and made the connection to previous concepts pertaining to consumer, producer, and total surplus, resulting tax revenue, and the effects of elasticity upon the size of a deadweight loss - the "benefits" lost to a market or economy due to a tax. We also completed Chapter 9, which was also an extension of a previous chapter related to comparative advantage, specialization, and trade. The student was able to obtain a better understanding of the gains from trade, the difference between a domestic and world price, the reasoning behind exports (when the world price is greater than a domestic price) and imports (when the world price is less than the domestic price), changes in consumer, producer, and total surplus, and the effects of tariffs and quotas.

Tutoring review by Emily in Vallejo, CA
We prepared for her upcoming quiz on Unit 1. The student has the basic concepts down (she understands order of operations, and adding/ subtracting/ multiplying/ dividing integers). The next step is to practice her pace and timing. Perhaps spending extra time on multiplication tables would be helpful.
