Tutoring review by Manuel in Richboro, PA
The student practiced solving solution set by using a graph and by using algebra. He was provided modeling and guiding questions during his homework which was proved by his math teacher. He found it hard to understand the homework and was unable to complete any question independently. He was asked to review the work that was completed and to follow up with questions about the material in the future.

We worked on graphing linear inequalities and systems of linear inequalities. This was not too much different than graphing equations and systems of equations so the student seemed to pick it up pretty quick. We'll review Chapter 7 next time then, if he has no more questions, move on to exponents in Chapter 8.

On Monday, the student and I started preparing for her upcoming French final exam and departmental assessment. We practiced conjugating verbs and I assisted her in developing some rules to conjugate some of the verbs that were presented on her study guide. We also worked through some other basic vocabulary words regarding family and home life, as well as food. We spent some of the session discussing how to approach her finals and discussed strategies in time management and study skills. She seems to remember a good portion of her vocabulary from earlier chapters in French, and responded very well to the strategy of developing a set of rules to assist her with verb conjugation.

Today our session was about surface area. I taught the student about the net drawing of a 3D shape. I had him calculate the surface area of a rectangular prism, triangular prism, and square pyramid. He then cut out the net drawing of those shapes and used tape to fold the paper and create the 3D shape. We also did some challenge problems where he had to do things like calculate if he had enough wrapping paper to wrap a gift of certain dimensions. For homework, I gave him practice with calculating the surface area of square pyramids and rectangular prisms.
