Tutoring review by Carro in Poulsbo, WA
The student and I covered identifying least common multiples, finding equivalent fractions, and comparing and ordering fractions. Using a checklist, the student practiced comparing and ordering fractions by following the following steps: find the common multiple, make equivalent fractions (by multiplying), and compare or order fractions. By the close of the session, she was able to independently identify the common multiple given 2 fractions. Additional guided practice is needed to allow her an opportunity to work toward independently making equivalent fractions after a common multiple has been identified. Practice is also still needed with comparing fractions given like denominators. These concepts will be revisited in isolation and then all together in future sessions.
