Work With The Perfect Tutor For You

All Minneapolis tutors possess the highest qualifications. In addition to completing a rigorous interview process, tutors in Minneapolis, MN must pass a background check and have academic credentials verified. An expert director will help you find the best tutor from this elite group; we stand behind these matches and even offer a money-back guarantee.

Personalized lessons help you learn best in an environment where you're comfortable, on your own schedule, both in-home or online.

Is meeting with a private tutor in Minneapolis affordable?

Because Varsity Tutors will find you a private teacher in Minneapolis who best fits your student's needs, the amount you'll pay for tutoring varies. Many factors affect your rate, including the subject, the level of tutoring, your location, and your needs.

For instance, tutoring five days a week with a college-level differential calculus tutor may cost more than a once-a-week review with a 5th grade tutor. If small group sessions are right for your student, you may be able to split the bill with other families as well. Adding small group courses to your learning plan can also be a cost-effective way to learn.

No matter what type of tutoring is right for your student, it's well worth the investment. Studies have shown that all students benefit from the focused assistance of a professional educator. And in many cases, studying with a Minneapolis tutor is much more affordable than you might think. For more detailed information, reach out to a Varsity Tutors Educational Director. You can contact us by phone or by signing up online to discuss a plan that best fits your needs, whether that's one-on-one private tutoring, small group sessions, live courses, or all of the above.

Can I get help finding a private tutor in Minneapolis?

Varsity Tutors will find you a qualified Minneapolis tutor to work with you or your student. Whether you're seeking help for your 1st grader at Bancroft Elementary or for your own classes at the U, our network of more than 40,000 tutors is ready to help Minneapolis students make real progress toward their academic goals.

With experts available in over 3,000 subjects, we'll find you a tutor to meet with without ever leaving your home. We know that searching for a tutor in Minneapolis on your own can be a daunting task, and we're happy to shoulder the hard work. The process of finding a suitable tutor, verifying their qualifications, and hoping that they mesh with your student is difficult to navigate. When you contact our Educational Directors, we'll discuss your needs, learning style, and goals to ensure we find you a certified tutor who's a great match in both knowledge and personality.

One of the most common misconceptions is that tutoring is only for students who struggle in class. In fact, one-on-one tutoring is an invaluable resource for students of all ages and academic abilities. Private tutoring has been proven to be an effective way to guide students through the topics they find most challenging, but students who wish to explore more advanced topics ahead of their classmates can also enjoy many benefits from studying with a private instructor.

What are the options for tutoring offered in Minneapolis?

The Varsity Tutors platform connects you with certified experts and teachers in over 3,000 subjects. From core subjects like elementary math to complex subjects like graduate-level statistics, we'll find you a qualified, professional tutor.

Many instructors offer one-on-one private tutoring as well as small group sessions. These small group sessions are ideal for classmates looking for extra help, while one-on-one sessions allow for additional individual attention from a private tutor. No matter which option you choose, you can feel sure that you're working with an experienced tutor.

Tutors also serve a vital role in many homeschooling programs. If your child is partially or wholly homeschooled, a skilled private instructor can supplement your own lessons or provide more in-depth support for complex subjects. Tutoring is also learning pod-friendly, and it's a great resource for students who are attending in-person courses on a part-time basis.

Small group courses with live instruction are also available for many subjects. In addition to academic subjects, we offer test prep tutoring and courses for popular exams like the ACT, LSAT, GMAT, and MCAT. And since education doesn't end when you leave school, live courses and private tutoring are also available for professional certifications in hundreds of fields.

Online tutoring and courses are attended using our Live Learning Platform, which enhances the tutoring experience and offers unparalleled convenience. In addition to the Live Learning Platform, our Learning Lab gives you a way to track your student's improvements using subject assessments and tests. These allow for a more complete picture of your student's progress than a traditional tutor might typically provide. Face-to-face interaction makes online sessions engaging and effective without ever having to leave home, and tutoring sessions can be scheduled at your convenience.

How are the tutors in Minneapolis chosen?

When you choose Varsity Tutors to find a private teacher in Minneapolis, you can trust that the tutor we find for you has been thoroughly vetted. Because our standards are high, very few candidates make it through our selection process.

The Minneapolis School System

Minneapolis, Minnesota, is part of the Twin Cities along with St. Paul. It is the largest city of the pair, with a population of about 422,000. The larger Twin Cities metropolitan area has an estimated population of 3.6 million. The nearly 35,000 students within the city attend one of the approximately 100 public schools in the Minneapolis Public Schools district. In addition to the public schools available in the city, parents can also choose from more than 20 private schools, or they can send their children to one of the schools in a neighboring district due to Minnesota’s open enrollment statute.

In such a large district, it can be difficult for parents to know where to turn if they discover their child is not achieving their academic potential. Varsity Tutors helps parents connect with experienced Minneapolis tutors. In addition to securing the assistance of a personal tutor, the freedom to choose which school your child attends can be an advantage for parents. Because you can select the school your child attends, it is essential to be aware of how the schools nearby compare to one another. Here are some assessment scores for the biggest Minneapolis high schools:

Minneapolis Test Scores

All Minneapolis students have the opportunity to take a career and college readiness test. These tests include the nationally recognized ACT and SAT. However, Minneapolis students must also prepare for the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) or the alternate Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS), which cover reading, mathematics, and science. These exams come in grades three through eight as well as once during the high school years.

Even for children who are generally doing well in school, standardized exams can present a challenge. For some this will be due to testing anxiety, while for others the issue may be due to a lack of mastery in a specific subject area. A personal tutor can help your child regardless of the academic challenges they face.

While sending your child to a highly ranked school can improve their odds of academic success, it doesn’t necessarily mean that a child who attends a poorly rated school must struggle. However, it is good to know where schools stand. The table below identifies some of the most highly ranked schools in Minneapolis and shows how they compare to other schools in the state:

Minneapolis High School Rankings

High School Minneapolis Ranking State Ranking AP Pass Rate
Southwest Senior High School 1 32 49%
Washburn Senior High School 2 67 42%
South Senior High School 3 143 35%
Roosevelt Senior High School 4 166 N/A

Minneapolis College Preparatory 7 N/A N/A
Learning for Leadership Charter School 8 N/A N/A
MTS High School 9 N/A N/A
Heritage Science & Technical Academy 10 N/A N/A

Even though Minneapolis has a high student population, the high school student-to-teacher ratio is on the low side. You can see how the largest schools in the city stack up in the chart below:

Minneapolis Student-to-Teacher Ratios

South Senior High School has a 17 1 student-teacher ratio.

Southwest Senior High School has a 19 1 student-teacher ratio.

Washburn Senior High School has a 17 1 student-teacher ratio.

Henry Senior High School has a 15 1 student-teacher ratio.

-focused on essay: on creating an effective thesis statement, giving appropriate examples, and staying on-topic -worked on Reading Comprehension. She is doing well on this part of the SAT- it comes to her much more intuitively than the math.

Tutoring review by John in Minneapolis, MN
The student has a test coming up on Wednesday so we reviewed all of chapter 3 which covers logarithmic and exponential equations and functions. Also, we started solving systems of linear equations. I try to set up fake tests and extra questions to get him to be able to problem solve on his own. I already see signs of improvement so I hope his test scores go up noticeably!
