Work With The Perfect Tutor For You

All Memphis tutors possess the highest qualifications. In addition to completing a rigorous interview process, tutors in Memphis, TN must pass a background check and have academic credentials verified. An expert director will help you find the best tutor from this elite group; we stand behind these matches and even offer a money-back guarantee.

Skilled tutors develop lessons to meet your individual needs. One-on-one tutoring sessions are held at a time and location of your choosing.

How much does it cost to study with a private tutor in Memphis?

The price of meeting with a certified tutor in Memphis depends on your or your student's specific needs, including the level of material you wish to cover, where you live, how often you want sessions, and who you study with. For example, a student who sets up regular meetings every Friday after school may pay a different hourly rate than a student who does not have a comparable schedule.

Likewise, tutoring for a student concentrating on word problems at Tara Oaks Elementary School costs a different amount than tutoring for a Collierville High School student preparing for a TNReady assessment.

Some students believe that tutoring automatically means working in a 1:1 learning environment, but many instructors also offer group sessions as well. Reviewing one-on-one allows your instructor to adjust their pacing to your unique needs, and studying in a group can foster collaboration that makes it easier to improve your understanding of academic subjects. Both are valuable tools, and Varsity Tutors provides affordable small group classes that serve as an excellent supplement to any tutoring plan.

A Memphis tutor can help students improve their self-confidence in the classroom if they are falling behind their peers by introducing fresh concepts at a pace they're more comfortable with. Alternatively, a tutor can aggressively introduce new material to keep high-achievers actively engaged in the learning process. Please contact us by phone or online for more specific information regarding private instruction and what it may cost you.

What are the steps to find a private tutor in Memphis?

A great tutor in Memphis needs three attributes: academic expertise, scheduling flexibility, and superlative communication skills. Unfortunately, it can be a lot of work to verify that any one instructor can provide all three, especially if you are considering more than one candidate.

The expert Educational Directors at Varsity Tutors specialize in doing all of the research so you don't need to. We maintain an exclusive database filled with 40,000+ independent tutors, allowing us to find a great fit for your scheduling and academic needs in as little as 24 hours. If the student in your life is shy about asking for help, we'll refer you to a tutor who helps students feel comfortable asking questions. If you don't remember where you put your notes on osmosis, we'll find you a tutor who can help you organize your notes to make it easier to locate your materials.

We will even connect you with a private teacher in Memphis who you can study alongside without ever leaving the comfort of home. Our powerful Live Learning Platform is a virtual classroom equipped with great features such as a shared document editor and video chat capabilities to provide a face-to-face tutoring experience anywhere with a reliable internet connection. It also records every session, so you can go back for a refresher on solutions vs. mixtures or Boolean algebra at your leisure. What could be more convenient?

Is there a variety of tutoring options available in Memphis?

Our network of tutors includes experts in over 3,000 different fields, so we will be able to locate a tutor in Memphis with the expertise you're looking for. If you are studying Spanish at Lewisburg High School, we will refer you to a fluent speaker who can help you understand the difference between masculine and feminine nouns.

If you are a business major at a local educational institution such as the University of Memphis, we'll set you up with an instructor who has professional experience in corporate finance.

Similarly, we will find you a qualified tutor to help you prepare for any high-stakes examinations you're preparing for. If your child is nervous about their first TCAP, their instructor can share helpful tips to mitigate their test anxiety. If you are taking the GMAT or GRE, your instructor can emphasize what graders are looking for in your essays so that you can prioritize the right information. We can even help you prepare for hundreds of different professional certification tests if you're interested in adding something new to your resume.

A Memphis tutor can even provide invaluable support if you are homeschooling your children. For instance, your instructor can review your lesson plans and offer suggestions to help you improve them. Working with a tutor also grants you access to our Learning Lab: a collection of resources designed to help parents and students make the most out of homeschooling. For example, you get adaptive assessments designed to identify your student's specific areas of opportunity so that you know what to focus on. You might not think that you need a tutor's help, but homeschooling generally goes better with professional support.

What are the criteria for selecting tutors in Memphis?

Varsity Tutors utilizes an extensive screening process to connect students like you with a qualified tutor in Memphis. We begin by ensuring that each candidate is an expert in every area they'd like to tutor, so any questions you ask can be met with a quick, accurate response.

We also verify each instructor's availability, so you'll know that you'll have a session on Tuesday evening if you're scheduled for that time.

We also look for several additional qualities that differentiate good tutoring experiences from truly great ones. For instance, we look for instructors who understand multiple teaching methodologies because they are well-equipped to accommodate any pupil's preferred learning style. Likewise, we search for instructors with award-winning personalities because students are more likely to forge a personal rapport with a tutor they enjoy working with. We also emphasize passion throughout our screening process because students know when their instructor would rather be someplace else.

Tutoring is a great investment for students of all ages and ability levels, and Varsity Tutors takes the hassle out of the equation. The Memphis School System

Memphis, Tennessee, is in the southwestern corner of the state along the banks of the Mississippi River. It is the economic and cultural center of the region, and at about 315 square miles, it is also one of the most sprawling cities in the nation. The population of Memphis is about 650,000, though due to the size of the city, many areas feel much less crowded than similarly populous urban areas. All the schools in the city are under the direction of the Shelby County Schools district, which operates about 200 schools serving approximately 147,000 students. It is currently the largest school system in the state and one of the largest in the nation.

If you have begun to feel like your child isn’t thriving in their academic setting, a personal tutor may be able to help. Varsity Tutors helps parents connect with experienced Memphis area tutors who are eager to help your child achieve their academic potential. Tutors can help students in Memphis outperform their school's average assessment scores. Consider the chart below of scores in the Memphis area as compared to Tennessee overall averages.

This session was mostly focused on PreCalc. We looked at questions dealing with functions, determining domain range, zeros, y-intercepts, max and mins, etc. we also looked at a quiz the student had. Overall this session went well. We looked briefly through her notes on anatomy and physiology, and I gave her some advice on how to go about studying for it.

Tutoring review by Peter in Memphis, TN
First, we went over the Passage-Based Reading homework and the student did quite well with that; only missing 2 questions per each long passage. Then we covered topics in the Algebra packet like properties of exponents, translating words and phrases into algebraic equations, direct and inverse proportionality, inequalities, and solving equations. Finally, I asked her to do all the unfinished problems from the Algebra packet as well as a Writing section from her practice PSAT for next time.

Tutoring review by Alexandra in Memphis, TN
The student did a full length SAT Critical Reading practice section, and we reviewed the questions she answered incorrectly and strategies for answering those types of questions generally. The student was realistic about how much work/practice we could do in the time remaining for the test and fully engaged in our session. She was forthcoming in sharing her thinking about why she answered questions the way she did.

Tutoring review by Jordan in Memphis, TN
The student did great today. We went over tangent lines, the midpoint formula, and the distance formula. If she pays close attention to her calculations and practices, she should be in great shape for her test.

Tutoring review by Asma in Memphis, TN
During this session, we reviewed different topics. Among those were: solving quadratic equations, quadratic equation word problems, and evaluating quadratic equations given three points or a point and a vertex. We also reviewed some concepts such as how to simplify algebraic expressions and radicals. The student's skills in Algebra are good, but he needs to practice more problems. I'm emailing his mom extra problems. For next time, he will email me the chapters he wants to cover, along with the textbook title, so I can assign more problems to practice.
