Tutoring review by Stephanie in Lyon charter Township, MI
Today was a day focused on reviewing multiplication facts in a variety of formats. We practiced using flashcards and worksheets (mixed operations with addition, subtraction, multiplication). Then we created a multiplication table and identified her problem areas. I have come to realize that she is definitely a visual learner - when she can see the factors and multiplies all in one space, she is much quicker to answer. Hopefully using these strategies can help her to become faster with practice. For homework, I asked her to practice her flashcards daily and I created an angle measurement worksheet for her to practice using her protractor.

We are working on some really unique projects for this month in preparation for our "Princess tea party" which will occur in October once the girls are prepared. I bought notebooks for the girls, and we are decorating them with words and adjectives that we are learning along the way. The girls are also cutting out pictures of dresses, animals, people, and more to add to their books. We label parts of the pictures with what they know i.e. a pretty dress = la belle robe... a dog = le chien... etc. They are really excited and also put their names colored to their liking on the first page. We practiced spelling and color identification.

We worked on problems involving these fractions and mixed numbers problems. We also worked on long division and multiplication of numbers with multiple digits. I provided him with a multiplication table to assist him with memorizing multiplication of single digit numbers.

For this session the student had finished one chapter, so we looked ahead through 4 sections. We went over all of the exponent laws, multiplying and dividing numbers in scientific notation, and looked at dividing polynomials. He learned this material quickly and was able to do most of the problems correctly.

Today we worked on solving problems using real world situation graphs. We also went over how to find the equation of a line using two points off a graph. Once I reviewed the steps to finding the equation of a line the student seemed to understand the steps very well.

We are currently doing algebra. We worked on multivariable equations. The student definitely needs more practice in this topic. I'll be giving him more problems to solve.
