Glen Ellyn Tutoring FAQ

You can count on Varsity Tutors if you are looking for a tutor for students in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Whether you have your sights set on med school, and you want to work with someone who can help you navigate the MCAT, or you have an elementary aged student who could use some extra time with an educator who has experience with young learners, studies have shown that students who work with a tutor tend to perform better than if they had studied alone.

There is a common misconception out there that working with a tutor is something you do when you begin to fall behind. No doubt, students who struggle can benefit from the guidance of an experienced learning coach. But the benefits of tutoring extend to strong students as well, and beyond even. Sometimes, working with a tutor isn't about getting the grade, it's about bettering yourself by learning another language, or pursuing a passion, whether that's art history or music or poetry.

How much does Varsity Tutors cost for students in Glen Ellyn?

Our philosophy, when finding tutoring for students in Glen Ellyn is that every student is unique, and the tutoring experience we find for them should reflect their specific needs. Because a parent of a student at Glenbard West High School, who needs test prep help for the ACT, is going to be looking for something different than a student at the College of DuPage who needs a second set of eyes for their composition papers, it's hard to calculate a set price for tutoring.

There are a number of factors that we consider, including how many sessions you are signing up for. For example, if you need regular instruction from a Spanish tutor, you might pay less per session than someone who signs up for fewer sessions. The best way to get pricing for what you are looking for is to connect with our educational directors.

Which tutoring subjects does Varsity Tutors offer for students in Glen Ellyn?

Whether you have a student at Wheaton Warrenville South High School who could use the help of a learning coach to stay on top of their science and math coursework, or you are looking for a tutor for students in Glen Ellyn to help you get ready for the LSAT, we can help get you connected with a tutoring experience that will be right for you. Tutoring opportunities don't end either when you are done with school.

We connect working professionals with tutors all the time. You might want to add a new skill to your professional toolbox, a coding language perhaps, or maybe you are working as a teacher already, but need to get your certification. No matter where you are, or what kind of tutoring you are looking for, we have you covered.

Recent Glen Ellyn Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Johnathan in Glen Ellyn, IL
The student was struggling with equation solving last session, so that was the first thing we went over. She figured it out quickly this session. We then went over how equations correlated to lines on a graph and converting slope intercept equations into standard form. I discussed finding the slope of the equation and y-intercept. Overall, the session was very successful. Once she began to understand solving equations, all the other concepts went by quickly.

Tutoring review by Michael in Glen Ellyn, IL
I went through the process with him of solving and graphing inequalities. We looked at how similar it is to solving equations, first using the additive inverse and then the multiplicative inverse to isolate the variable. I showed him how the variable should be on the left side of the inequality, so that the graph will point in the same direction as the pointy end of the inequality symbol. We also looked at the reason you don't want a negative variable, since that is really signifying the opposite of the variable. This concept supports why, when isolating the variable by multiplying or dividing by a negative number, the direction of the symbol reverses. If negative, the variable's coefficient could originally be seen as being multiplied by negative one, so you were originally looking at the opposite relationship. Once the variable has been isolated from the negative one and becomes positive, the relationship reverses. I think he got it. We did a few online practice problems, and I left him with some notes. I also advised him to practice and review on his own.

Tutoring review by Jessica in Glen Ellyn, IL
We started out reading from the student's book again. After some reading and vocabulary quiz, we practiced math concepts of mean, median, mode, and range. I first gave the student sets of numbers and had him calculate each measure, then we assigned real-world units to the data and discussed which of the measures would most accurately reflect the data in each scenario. The student answered each question and made successful attempts to get the right answer each time.

Tutoring review by Sarah in Glen Ellyn, IL
The student started school last week and has been enjoying working with her new teacher. She had some homework about rounding, which she has been learning about using number lines. She easily worked through problems rounding to the nearest ten, but struggled with larger numbers. We talked about the tick marks on the number line and the space between them (1, 10, or 100). She eventually figured it out, but we will review it more to make sure it sticks.

Today the student and I covered work power, isolated systems, conservative and nonconservative forces, and centripetal and centrifugal force. The student needed help with the application of the concepts which is indirectly related to the in-depth understanding and comes only with practice.
