Tutoring review by Lindsey in Fairview, OR
Today we took the tables we worked on last time and made the equations from them, along with the graphs. We talked about slope, y-intercept, graphs of lines, 0 slope, undefined slope, graphing from table, graphing from equation. I wanted to tie everything together so that the student could see how it was all related and not separate. He was able to see some connections on his own but I also showed him some patterns that relate to the math. He had a good attitude and was interested in how it all tied together.

In our session today we examined monopolistic competition and oligopolies. I showed the student the spectrum from fully competitive markets all the way to monopolies. We examined how a market's competitiveness affects both the sellers and the buyers. He is always very inquisitive, and seems to pick up the material quickly. With today's session I think that the grander vision of the class finally became clear to him.

Today, the student and I began the session by reviewing the grades she received on her tests taken last week. Overall, the scores were very good. She had a B on her math test and is making corrections to resubmit tomorrow. We also did some multiplication review today, focusing on multiples of 7 and 8. We then spent time going over paragraph structure for her weekly writing assignments. I helped her write an outline using what she had already written, and I suggested edits that would improve the quality and content of the assignment.
