Today, the student I worked on a ELA assignment on Roman Plebeians. I gave him tips on how to identify and find the critical ideas of a passage, by reviewing the questions at the end of the text first. We also reviewed an upcoming paper where he will need to make an "argument" to prove a perspective.

The student reported that she had had a test and that it went pretty well. We reviewed problems on proportions and reasoning, followed by application problems. Next we reviewed problems on arithmetic and geometric sequences.

Our focus is now on preparing for the student's upcoming final exams - a written portion and a multiple choice portion. The written portion is on Tuesday next week. He had two worksheets that reviewed Ch 6 (solving inequalities, graphing inequalities, and graphing systems of inequalities) and Ch 7 (exponents rules and scientific notation). We talked through each problem to review the material together. Overall, he seemed that have a good grasp of inequalities. We talked through in more detail how to determine whether to shade above or below the graph. After finishing with the review worksheets, I had him do some practice problems that I had prepared in advance. The student did well on the inequality questions, the exponents questions, and finally the transformations questions (Ch 8). We will continue at our next session with reviewing transformations, functions (Ch 9), and quadratics (Ch 10).

We worked with a great assortment of flashcards. The theme was verbs SER and ESTAR in present tense and past tense. He enjoyed working with flashcards and we will continue working this way.

The student and I went over specific review problems that she had for me. She was struggling with some algebra 2 concepts such as factoring or exponents, but understood calculus terms generally well. She had a positive attitude, and was left to continue practicing for an additional session.
