The student and I reviewed some of the expressions that I taught her at the last session ( "I have to..." with "to have" in the infinitive). We went over some tricky verbs like "to go" and "to make." We also made a list of new vocabulary words, including words to describe clothing and body parts.

I go to know the student and his reading skills. He can identify all of his letters. He seems to understand the difference between a letter and a phoneme. He is not yet reading words or identifying sight words with consistency. In our next session, we are going to work on phonics. We will be specifically identifying the first or last letter in a word by its sound.

The student and I continued working with balancing and classifying chemical reactions. She has the classifying down. With balancing, she can do the basic ones easily, but multiple compounds are tough. Sometimes you just have to do some guess and check work, so it will take some time to get used to. Hopefully more practice will help. We also started looking at determining grams, moles, and molecules of reactants or products using. I had to start from the beginning, but by the end when we had made it through some sample problems, she got the hang of it. I gave her a challenging problem for our next session so I am eager to see how she can apply what's she's learned to completing the problem.

This session was math-based. The student and I worked on area of a circle = pi times radius squared, circumference = 2 pi times radius or pi times diameter, area of a rectangle = length times width, area of a triangle = one half base times height, solving for arc problems using proportions, and more intricacies of geometry. We also explored properties of radicals and exponents in various applications.

This session went well. We went over a homework assignment for the student's physics class which dealt with gravitational forces, and a bit of centripetal motion. We finished the homework assignment. He seemed to understand the topic. Afterwards we looked at his calculus homework and went over continuity. He seemed to understand continuity a bit more than before.

The student worked on her homework which covered the binomial theorem: sequences and series. Progress was good. She already seemed to have a thorough understanding of the material and worked pretty independently throughout the session. Every once in awhile she had questions or asked me to check some of her answers, but she was pretty comfortable with the material herself.
