The student and I went over the problems she answered incorrectly on her exam, and any leftover questions she had about the exam material that her instructor did not cover. We quickly went over the basic concepts of the sections she had covered in class that day, and began working on the end of chapter problems her instructor had assigned for homework.

We discussed his recent math test. I explained the importance of using test taking strategies and showed him a few that would help on his retake test. We also practiced adding and subtracting mixed numbers. In addition, I helped the student study for his social studies test. He created graphic organizers to display the information in an easier way. I will be emailing his math teacher to understand more clearly where he needs help in math.

Worked on reading section to give him a break before we go back in to writing. It was an excellent session and the student performed admirably. My main focus is helping him understand that improved work habits could showcase his intelligence to its full potential. Slowly he is gaining confidence and trust in our work.

Today, the student and I spent time going over some of his homework problems before reviewing for his exam. He really understood my algebraic explanation of things, which was a major stride given his difficulty with math. Since his test was pushed back, he was able to get in a lot more studying, so I feel that he is prepared for it.
