Tutoring review by Jacqueline in Buckeye, AZ
We worked on factoring expressions to help review for the test. The student started out kind of shaky, but really picked it up as we went along, even factoring one on her own. We talked about how you can use the quadratic equation to confirm whether or not an equation is not factorable and how this can help if she gets concerned on a test.

The student has made significant progress on her penguin progress in her own time. She came prepared with a rough draft of a flow chart. We filled in any holes in the research, organized the content to make it easier for individuals to understand, and proofread for clarity. I also edited her artist's statement.

Today, the student and I met to discuss a number of upcoming assessments. We discussed the ethics presentation that she will have to give on e-cigarettes, and I helped explain the basics of the Libertarian position that she will have to argue from. We also discussed the presentation she will have to give on her thesis topic. In addition to this work, I also read over her final thesis and suggested questions that her panelists might ask if they draw from her portfolio.

Tutoring review by Katherine in Buckeye, AZ
We spent most of the lesson reviewing concepts and formulas related to finding the slope of a line. We worked many problems from the blue book together because it's very important to have a solid understanding of slope, how to calculate it, and how to use it. After we had worked many problems together, we introduced the concept of the slope-intercept form for linear functions. We compared how to find the slope of a line in the standard form (using x- and y-intercept information) and then compared that to how to identify the slope for the same line when it is written in slope-intercept form. We had a great time!

The student and I worked on the SSAT Verbal portion for the entire session today. He showed some concern about the Verbal test for the SSAT. We went over analogies for the entire session today. He did better than he thought he would. He doesn't know some of the words, but he is able to eliminate the incorrect answers to come to the correct answer. For the next session, we will work on more analogies.
