All Brooklyn tutors possess the highest qualifications. In addition to completing a rigorous interview process, tutors in Brooklyn, NY must pass a background check and have academic credentials verified. You select the time and location, and expert tutors develop the strategies to help you meet and exceed your tutoring goals.

How much does a private tutor in Brooklyn cost?

The price of working with an experienced tutor in Brooklyn depends on several different variables, including what you or your student wish to study, how often you plan to study it, your location, and more. For instance, tutoring for a third-grader working on their vocabulary homework may be a different hourly rate than tutoring for an undergraduate studying chemical nomenclature at CUNY Brooklyn College.

Likewise, a student who meets their academic coach on a set weekly schedule may be charged differently than someone who schedules study sessions as-needed.

Who you study alongside can also impact the price you pay. Working in a one-on-one learning environment allows your Brooklyn tutor to develop a customized study plan around your needs. Alternatively, you can study with a few of your friends and pursue your academic goals in a more collaborative learning environment. Both options make for great supplements to classroom learning, so you can't go wrong either way. Varsity Tutors also provides small group classes if you're looking for a cost-effective way to get more support.

Tutoring is beneficial for students of all ages and ability levels, so you shouldn't assume that it isn't for you because you get good grades. Contact our Educational Directors online or by phone to discuss more specific pricing details related to your specific needs.

How do I find a private tutor in Brooklyn?

If you tried to find a qualified Brooklyn tutor on your own, you would have to personally verify that every candidate you're considering combined academic expertise with superlative communication skills. You would also have to make sure that your instructor was available when you want to study.

Do you honestly want to add all of that research to your plate? Varsity Tutors maintains a database filled with over 40,000 certified instructors, allowing us to match any student with a great tutor for their needs in as little as 24 hours. The process begins with you telling us exactly what you're looking for, and then we take care of the rest. If your young student is struggling with their multiplication tables at P.S. 134, we'll connect you with a patient instructor who can provide fresh explanations and examples until the material sinks in. If you're having a tough time writing an essay for an English class at Stuyvesant High School, we'll match you with an expert in outlining written assignments.

We will even find you a tutor in Brooklyn who you can work with without leaving the comfort of home for maximum flexibility. Our Live Learning Platform is a virtual classroom accessible anywhere with an internet connection, enabling you to choose your preferred study environment. It also records each of your study sessions for future reference.

How qualified are tutors in Brooklyn?

Anybody can call themselves a professional tutor in Brooklyn, so there are no guarantees when it comes to instructors you find on your own. Luckily, Varsity Tutors uses a comprehensive screening process that rules out most candidates, enabling students and their parents to trust that they are working with an expert.

We begin by verifying that an instructor is proficient in every subject they teach. We also make sure that each candidate demonstrates an understanding of multiple teaching techniques, allowing them to better accommodate a student's specific needs. Finding the right way to present information is often the key to helping students experience that "Aha!" moment.

Once these core skills are accounted for, we move on to the intangibles that separate a good tutoring experience from a great one. For example, we actively search for instructors with great personalities that students are excited to work with. We also look for teachers who love learning and inspire students to go beyond simply reciting facts.

Working with a private teacher in Brooklyn can help you or your student develop superior study skills, improve your understanding of challenging concepts, and relate to tricky concepts that may otherwise feel like abstract exercises in a textbook. If you are ready to discover the difference tutoring can make for yourself or simply have additional questions, please contact Varsity Tutors by phone or online to get started today! We are excited to work with you.

Recent Tutoring Session Reviews

Tutoring review by Travis in Brooklyn, NY
We went over test topics, including strategies for the overall test. After this, we went through his diagnostic on the math session only. It took a while because we walked through the 11 problems he missed but he feels much better about the overall possibilities in math. I think he just needed to slow down on some things. Progress for the first session was great.

Tutoring review by John in Brooklyn, NY
This was my first tutoring session with the students.  Student 1 did not seem to have any trouble thus far with the content covered in her class or with her homework, so the session revolved primarily around Student 2.  Topics covered and reviewed included:  polynomial factoring, polynomial expansion, and adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing polynomial functions (finding the common denominator).  Student 2 seemed to feel much better at the end of the session with these topics and felt more confident for her upcoming quiz on Friday (8/26).

Tutoring review by Fernando in Brooklyn, NY
We continued to work on some homework assignments that the student needed to catch up on as a way to review concepts. He was able to effectively solve systems of equations problems as well as inequality problems. He had no problem graphing points or drawing lines from the equation. There was a bit of review that needed to be done on inequalities and how to determine which side of a line to shade, but by the end of the session he understood it much better. With the exception of some assignments that the student will ask his teacher about, we are all caught up on his missing assignments.

The student has been doing a good job keeping up with school and extracurricular activities.  We spent today's session prioritizing the work he has for tonight and the rest of the week.  I went over the chemistry concepts in biology with him to prepare him for his upcoming test.

Went over Chapter 14 in detail. We went over rate laws and problems related to rate laws. This was a very extensive chapter so we took the time to address it topic by topic. I assigned him some problems within the chapter, and we will go over the next chapter during the next session and test material for his upcoming exam.

TUTORING SESSION: 3 of 6; DATE: Saturday, December 8; TIME: 1:30:3:30; LOCATION: Coffee shop; OVERVIEW: This was my third tutoring session with the student. We worked on the journal a bit together and discussed his creative ideas for it. For tutoring, we covered reading comprehension, discussing tips and techniques. We also completed many practice passages together. He continues to be a very strong, smart student with honestly only average or less than average trouble in the reading comprehension section.
