I discussed our progress and the student's strengths and challenges in detail after this session with his mother. We reviewed his homework, which consisted of long division with remainders and interpreting the remainders to find the appropriate answer.
He is very capable and feels confident with long division. What he still needs to work on is memorizing his multiplication facts. Starting next session, we are going to spend a minimum of 5 minutes practicing flashcards. I also suggested he do this every day even when we do not meet in order to be successful.

In this session, we worked on positive and negative numbers, order of operations, reducing fractions, and powers of 10. The student struggled with adding and subtracting negative numbers at first but then got the concept towards the end. I think he needs reinforcement. He seems to have an understanding of powers of 10 but again needs more practice.

The student had a take home assignment we worked on consisting of a few multiple choice questions from the exam and a few problems on graphing linear inequality. She demonstrates great reasoning which helps her better understand concepts and solving problems.

In this session, we compared fractions to find out which fraction (with different denominators) is largest. We worked on several examples, then I introduced the student to adding and subtracting fractions as well as LCD, which is the same as Greatest Common Multiple. We worked on several examples of these as well.

The student received an 86% on his latest math assessment (completing the square, using the quadratic formula, and substitution to solve quadratic equations, and graphing quadratics). We worked on inverse functions (finding the inverse of a function, graphing inverses, and proving that two functions are inverses of one another).
