It has been over 2 years since he last took calculus so he feels overwhelmed with the knowledge required for solving some of these integrals. The section he just covered involved integration by substitution. I am trying to show him my method which explicitly includes all steps to ensure there are no dropped coefficients.

Today, the student and I spent the entire time reviewing for her final exam. We went over a practice exam and reviewed most of the questions that she had on the material. She has come an exceptional way in her mathematics education. She had an excellent attitude throughout the entire session and she felt confident about her upcoming final.

Today was our last session, and we just went over testing strategy for the visual part of the exam. The angle ranking and box counting came pretty easily to the student , so we didn't focus too much on those strategies. We went over the strategy for the hole punching for the majority of the session, since that part is mostly strategy anyway. I think she felt better about that portion after we went over it. We also covered the folding objects part of the exam, and I think she will do great after a little more practice with that strategy.

Tutoring review by Allison in Arlington, WA
Today, we mostly worked on proofs. The student wanted to focus on analyzing the given information to "mark up" or label the diagram. We first reviewed some homework she had and then finished off the session practicing more proofs. I would like to see her more fluent in these proofs and, like anything, I think this will happen after more practice. We will continue to practice proofs and get used to the process. I think that it's mostly just a matter of getting used to how to complete the proof. We will continue focusing on that.

Tutoring review by Kendra in Arlington, WA
The student and I started today with solving equations by factoring and using the quadratic equation. She has gotten really good at factoring, even with higher exponents or tricky numbers. Then, I had her do some word problems where she had to read the problem, create an equation based on the information, then multiply out, refactor, and solve for her variable. The problems had many steps and were time consuming, but she stayed focused and did well.
