Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I completed another lesson. We began with a quick conversational review of the date, day of the week, months, and ordinal numbers. We are reinforcing vocabulary terms and regularly using preterite construction in our warm-up questions. We are working together on responding using the correct subject pronoun and using the correct personal ending. We worked on translations today and incorporated verbs from his sheets and flashcards. I've asked him to continue to review his flashcards on his own to help build his vocabulary base."
"Today, the student and I did a review of verbs in the Imperfect and Preterit tenses, including the irregulars and car/gar/zar verbs. We practiced going back and forth between the two tenses and conjugating them. He is showing a lot of improvement; however, he is still struggling with remembering accents, so we talked about a few strategies to remember where they go. We also did several practice problems from his text book. He is getting better at determining how to conjugate verbs in context."
"Today, the student and I discussed news from Spanish sources, such as El Pais, and also covered topics regarding American politics and gastronomy. She struggled a little bit reading in Spanish, but she did it fine. She sometimes leads the conversation in Spanish, as long as I can correct her pronunciation."
"Today, the student needed help studying for her Spanish final. Her teacher had posted a review assignment online consisting of 96 questions, so we went through them together. The questions were mostly about the grammar topics she had learned over the course of the semester, as well as a few questions about certain culture topics discussed in class. She did have some difficulty recalling grammar topics that were covered earlier in the semester, but remembered them little by little the more questions she answered. We plan to meet twice next week so she can benefit from added preparation for finals week."
"Today, the student practiced with mostly speaking (present tense and prepositional phrases). We also started using school/office supply vocabulary. He did not struggle with anything and had a great attitude, as always. He had one handout to complete for next time."
"Today, the student reviewed subject pronouns. We played a round of Spanish hangman. We went over body parts. We also covered colors and other basic nouns. We will be starting on verb and sentence construction next week."
