"Today we continued our practice with past tense, focusing on the perfect tense, which is used more commonly in German everyday conversation. We practiced using both writing and speaking. Now that they have the sentence structure for past tense down, I want to introduce them to more verbs, so that they may express a wider variety of actions in the past. I am very pleased with the girls' determination, and the progress they have made so far."
"Today, the student and I went over business introductions. We went over the accusative/nominative, and did some more reading and listening comprehension. His pronunciation is getting so much better, as is his reading comprehension. The improvement is very noticeable."
"Today, we focused on the simple past tense, and how to use it with separable prefix verbs. I had her go through a number of exercises about separable prefix simple past tense verbs. At first, she had difficulty figuring out where to place the prefix in the sentence, since she had been used to seeing it a certain way in present perfect. I explained that the rules for simple past prefixes are the same as for present tense, and she improved in remembering to move the prefix to the end of the sentence. We finished our lesson by having her take a sequence of events in the present tense and rewrite them in simple past tense."
"We both chose some more articles to read and do a translation of. We talked a bit more in English this time than other times about German history and the construction of some verbs. The student had found a site that applies all possible separable prefixes to a verb and then finds the definition for them. It is a great method to get the various meanings a root verb can take with alternative prefixes. I look forward to the next session!"
"We conjugated a few verbs in German and then read four texts about different people - who they are, where they live, their age, profession, marital status, hobbies, etc., and then the student had to talk about himself using these text as an example. He will receive homework to practice verb conjugation, subject pronoun use, and the new vocabulary in context."
"We continued in the textbook with new vocabulary and reading pronunciation. We also started a new grammar workbook that the student will be using for her grammar practice. We will also continue on reading the German text. We started the grammar section with the definite and indefinite article as well as this and a designation of the nouns. She is very motivated, and she is working on her exercises. We also went through the cases that we will learn in the near future. Next session, we will continue in the grammar workbook and textbook and practice vocabulary and constructing sentences."
