"We continued to cover volume today, especially irregular shapes. We also went over the student's test - she seems to be having a bit of trouble with word problems, so we plan to continue going over those next week, especially while working on a math I know she's so solid in."
"Today, the student and I went over the homework that she had in her packet. We went over fractions and multiplying. She was very positive and ready to learn. I gave her a few hints to help with fractions. She is starting to understand the concept of multiplying fractions, and why when you multiply two together- the product is smaller than both the originals."
"The student and I briefly went over her homework, which she again had very little difficulty with. We continued to work out of her practice workbook, where she worked on problems involving order of operations. She is getting better and faster with division and shows a great ability to do multiplication. She has a little trouble with addition when there aren't the same number of digits with each number (e.g. 155+17), though I think we had turned a corner by the end of the session."
"Today, the student worked from his drillbook (multi-number addition) and corrected the homework I had assigned him on Thursday (subtraction). We also went over mixed numbers and improper fractions and how to convert one to the other, and he did some of his online homework. I assigned him extra homework--two pages of addition/subtraction, two of multiplication, and two of division. While he understands the concepts, he sometimes makes minor errors and doesn't double-check his work, so a core theme of our sessions is that he needs to double-check more often. Depending on how well he does, I will move on to further subjects or continue to drill him. According to his progress report, he has been improving on his math tests."
"We covered sales tax, property tax, and US customary conversions. The student did well with the concepts covered. She learned that the decimal is moved to the left of the product depending on the total number of digits behind the decimal in the factors. She had a good attitude during the session. It was a productive session."
"We reviewed the student's current school homework -- equivalent fractions. This led to a nice review and discussion of the concept of division, which she still struggles with when it comes to word problems. We continued to work division word problems for the remainder of the time, and I assigned her more homework in that area."
