Tulsa Mandarin Chinese Tutoring FAQ

You should think about getting in touch with Varsity Tutors if you're interested in getting set up with a Tulsa Chinese tutor. Tulsa Chinese tutoring can be a great option for students and professionals alike. A private Chinese instructor can guide you through the language and give you assistance if you begin to have difficulties. Chinese is one of the most useful languages that you could possibly learn. Since it is spoken by so many people, it can be used both in international business and in travel. It can open up new cultural experiences for you, including a wellspring of art, history, and music. Although it's considered to be one of the most difficult languages to learn, it can be a fun experience that enables you to keep your mind sharp. Interestingly, it's the only modern pictographic language, which adds an extra layer of intrigue. Let's look at some of the ways that working with a Tulsa Chinese tutor can enable you to learn the language.

How can a Tulsa Chinese tutor near me help me work toward fluency?

You can work with Tulsa Chinese tutors either online or in-person, which gives you extra flexibility. If you pick the online option, then you can study with your private Chinese mentor via the Live Learning Platform. You'll be able to talk with your Tulsa Chinese tutor over video chat, use a virtual whiteboard, and record sessions so that you can go back and watch them later. If you prefer working at home from your computer, then this is a great option. On the other hand, if you think an in-person meeting would meet your needs, then you can meet up with your Tulsa Chinese tutor in a public location such as the Hardesty Regional Library. In both of these situations, you or your student can study without the distractions of a traditional classroom environment. Getting some extra assistance can really help if you've been struggling with Chinese and you'd like to talk to an expert to give you some perspective on how to continue with your studies. It's also great if you've already mastered many of the concepts and you want to explore more obscure areas of the language.

Tulsa Chinese tutors can put together a study plan that addresses your learning needs. Your instructor can consider all your strengths and weaknesses, and then help you set goals to work toward. When you or your student can look back and see the goals that have been reached, it can provide powerful motivation to keep moving onward. This is a valuable feature because it gives you a greater sense of structure. Tulsa Chinese tutoring can also help you determine what your best learning style is. You might find that you prefer listening to discussions. Similarly, you might discover that you prefer visual materials. Your instructor can conform to your own learning style. It is useful to have a solid understanding of how you learn best so that you can use this knowledge throughout your educational career.

Brushing up on your Chinese can also give you a greater feeling of self-confidence when you know that you're getting prepared for a future course or for international travel. It has great potential to get you or your student ready for higher education. If you have a student who is about to go into high school and who wants to prepare for their Chinese classes, this is a great way for them to do so. If you're preparing for a college-level Chinese class, your instructor can enable you to get prepared for this as well. If you've been planning a trip to Beijing and you want to learn some of the language, tutoring is an effective way to prepare for that.

In Tulsa Chinese tutoring, you or your student can move at a comfortable pace. If you're having trouble understanding the tonal qualities of Chinese, then this is something that you and your Chinese instructor can take some time to focus on. Or if you're confused about the system of Chinese characters, this is also a subject that you can ask questions about. At the same time, if you have acquired a full understanding of a topic and you want to move to something else like pronouns or pronunciation, then Tulsa Chinese tutors can do this as well. This ability to speed up and slow down is a great advantage that enables you to focus on the subjects that you're most interested in or which require the most attention. You can ask your Chinese mentor any questions that you have as you go along. For example, if you're curious to know more about Chinese history and culture, you can bring it up. Your private Chinese mentor can fill any gaps that exist in your knowledge of Chinese so that they don't become a problem later on in your studies.

It always helps to have continuous feedback whenever you're learning any language, which is something that your Chinese instructor can do for you. If you make a pronunciation error, your instructor can correct you and resolve that issue before it becomes a habit. This is an advantage that you wouldn't have if you were studying on your own. If one-on-one tutoring isn't for you, bear in mind that Varsity Tutors can get you set up with classes. Here, you can learn in a group of students. Talk to one of our educational consultants if you want more information on this option.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Cameron in Tulsa, OK
We began with a lesson on the restaurant vocabulary the student and his family requested. Although not exhaustive, the list of words should get everyone off to a good start. We then reviewed how to talk about residence and nationality. For next time, I asked that he practice writing restaurant orders. I also asked that he review the audio tracks for this week's lesson and look at the next chapter.

We spent this session finishing up the student's Chinese project for class. We worked together to write section two and most of section three. I also helped him type some of it in characters on the computer. There is a little more he has to finish up, but I gave him the tools to do so.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Zhan in Tulsa, OK
Today was the first lesson with them since the holiday break! We started with the review, and they forgot a lot, so we began step by step, going over everything we've learned so far, including numbers, Pinyin, Q&A's, basic greetings and writing of characters. We played the five chess game for warm up, then straight into dialog and Q&A. After some recovery and warm up, the process became faster and they began to get the hang of it. Next session we'll have a test based on all the reviews we did today! Homework is to study and to review everything we've done today.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Hua in Tulsa, OK
We read two Chinese story book. We learned new words while reading the texts. We went through 50 flashcards. I encouraged the students to use Chinese as much as possible during class. I gave them each two sheets to practice writing characters. We watched on YouTube a famous Aesop fable story ''Wolf and Little Goat'' and ''Fox Divides Meat"; then I asked them questions regarding the story. I asked them several questions after the video to make sure they really comprehended the story.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Jasper in Tulsa, OK
The student is very good at pronunciation, but he's confused about the traditional and simplified characters. We decided to focus on the characters in our session. We went through the characters in lesson 12 in his textbook and he seems fine with them. He is very eager to get a better understanding of the vocabulary; he always makes his own flashcards for every word. I told him I'll bring him a sheet of important vocabulary in traditional and simplified Chinese for him to practice differentiating them for the following sessions.

Mandarin Chinese Tutoring review by Kelly in Tulsa, OK
Today we practiced reading text out loud from the student's textbook, working specifically on pronunciation. She already has a strong understanding of the characters--she knows the English meaning without difficulty and can recall the basic Pinyin spelling of most characters. Our challenge together moving forward will be to improve pronunciation of tones and getting the flow of Chinese sentences. It's a tough journey though. Don't be discouraged! We will start with the same passages from the text next Tuesday, so keep practicing that. Don't worry about speed; focus on accuracy. Remember to practice words together that share a common character in order to commit the character rather than the word to memory. I will send over a supplementary text this weekend. If you have time, preview as much as you can, and try to get a sense of the meaning. We will work on it together next time as well.
