Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I completed her semester exam review, and went back over some of the topics she still had questions on. We particularly focused on solving absolute value equations and inequalities."
"The student and I completed more lessons in the math program over slope and applications of slope. I also had her practice how to write equations in y=mx+b form and parallel vs. perpendicular slopes. She was better with her integers today than Monday. Otherwise, she did a great job today."
"The student and I continued our work in quadratics, specifically factoring polynomials, completing the square, the quadratic formula, special case quadratics, and the vertex form."
"The student and I continued to do exponents and order of operations practice. She has improved in both concepts since last week, and did well on the practice problems. We also did a lot of problems dealing with cube and square roots, and negative numbers. She had some trouble keeping track of the negatives, but we got a good start today on that topic, and will continue to work on it. She definitely needs to review her squares and square roots to make those problems easier."
"The student and I continued to practice describing functions by their symmetry, end behavior, zero points, extrema, and inflection points. We reviewed how to determine if a function has simple symmetry by determining if it is even, odd, or neither. We practiced using the limits as x goes to infinity to find the end behavior, and talked about how the simple symmetry can indicate the end behavior. We went through finding the first three derivatives of a function, and how to use them to find any extrema and inflection points and classify them. Lastly, we went through a word problem for the height of water in a container as it drains, solving the equation for a specific time, and finding volume change over a given time interval."
"The student and I continued to work on a review of his online Algebra class. He was able to complete a tutorial, practice, and mastery test with minimal assistance today. When I mentioned that to him, he said it helped him to know I was there in case he got lost. He is making great progress!"
