Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this round of tasks, we had to learn a bunch of numbers and their corresponding signs, then upload several videos. These were designed to build speed and automatic recollection of numbers 1-50. Also included on our docket for this session was more videos of him signing, this time dealing with new vocabulary words, and some workbook exercises which required scanning and uploading to the class platform -- just business as usual. I scheduled the week's second session over the weekend because Elijah is exhausted by 5 PM, after getting up early and working in the sun for his job."
"The student requested that I collaborate with her on writing a chapter of her book. We worked together on developing the chapter using synonyms, metaphors, and introducing a new character with dialogue."
"During this session, we covered an essay that the student was assigned last week. We went over it together, especially the structure and wording, and then we applied this essay to a graphic organizer to see if his ideas and formatting matched. We made many editing changes, and his essay is much more structured now. The student struggles with spelling and grammar a bit and he's never been exposed to five-paragraph essays so this is new to him, but he's making great progress. The student was excited about the essay topic and wanted to talk about it. He was engaged and took instruction well. I showed him a graphic organizer and explained that it can be used as a strategy for putting his ideas down for an essay. I left him with the task of rewriting the essay and completing the graphic organizer for next lesson, as well as asking him to study his spelling words."
"The student and I went over one of his math and grammar sheets and worked on some multiplication/division math cards. He also got started on reading a passage and highlighting the main details to help him write his summary. He had a great first session back, and I look forward to working more with him this summer!"
"The student and I reviewed some more for his final in history this week! He seems to understand all the different facts he needs to know and exactly what will be on the exam. He is very confident in his knowledge for history and I think this exam will be fine. The student has also progressed more on his chemistry assignment and had that due with his partners tomorrow! It was a pleasure working with the student throughout his sophomore year and I know we will continue to do well his junior year!"
"We wrapped up the academic year with a fun review of parts of speech, looked forward to summer writing joys, and ways to discover books we love that will show what great writing is...I am encouraging the student to write postcards from her vacation spots; all writing is good! I hope to resume with her in the fall."
