Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent this session working on the student's lab. We explored how to calculate Gibbs free energy from solubility data, enthalpy from calorimetry data, and entropy from the relationship dG = dH - TdS. She is getting more comfortable with the concepts of energy and relationships between the values."
"We went over a lab that was completed and did post-lab questions. This lab was on bio-diesel. We covered some general organic ideas so the student could complete the questions. The student then completed a pre-lab on Le Chatelier's principle of equilibrium."
"We went over binary nomenclature for ionic compounds (Type I and Type II) and covalent compounds. We also went over acid/base nomenclature. Lastly, we went over electron dot diagrams and Lewis structures. The student is quick to grasp these concepts, and we will try to meet before his quiz on Friday, if possible."
"We went over challenge problems from the back of the student's Chem book. They consisted of stoichiometry and mass percent type problems. We spent a little extra time trying to finish up a problem. Great job today!"
"We went over equilibrium constants and using the ICE method to calculate concentrations. The student expressed some anxiety about his math class, so we agreed to meet a couple times a week prior to his upcoming final exam. Trigonometry and logs were the main areas of focus today, but we plan on going over more topics the next time once he has completed some more homework."
"We went over metric conversions because the student has midterms coming up. We did several problems since she has trouble remembering which direction the decimal point has to move during conversions."
