Session Summaries by Trigonometry Tutors

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Alonso in Sunrise, FL
We spent the first half the of the session recreating a unit circle with coordinates and angles. The second half was spent applying this to solving equations involving sine and cosine. We discussed how you need to consider all possible rotations when solving your equation. I think he has a much better understanding of what's happening now but he still has not internalized the unit circle angles and side lengths.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Claire in Sunrise, FL
The student worked through her homework packet covering inscribed chords, triangles, squares, and their respective area/perimeter. After working through a few practice problems, she said she understood the theorems of that section, and she easily finished the remainder of the packet, including working ahead to the next section. We spent some time going through challenge problems that I had brought with me, which she also did well on. It's clear through her work that she understands this section well and can complete the problems on her own. For the next session, I will be bringing another practice quiz to see how accurate her work is when under time pressure.

I helped the student prepare for her chapter test, which includes radians, all 6 trig functions, reference/coterminal angles, graphing linear transformations of trig functions, and practical applications in word problems. She had a good understanding of all of the topics. She has an 88 average, and wants to bring it up to an A so she can be exempt from taking the final exam.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Paul in Sunrise, FL
We started with long division of 3 digit dividends and 2 digit divisors. I had the student round to 2 digit dividends and 1 digit divisors in order to approximate before multiplying the divisor to solve the problems. Then we worked on reducing fractions, using greatest common factors to solve. We then reviewed mathematics vocabulary and finished by reading from his book "The Watsons go to Birmingham."

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Taylor in Sunrise, FL
Tonight we covered sections 10.1 and 12.3 from the math book, which the student has a quiz on tomorrow. More specifically we covered how to find the domain and range of functions as well as problems relating to complex functions. She has been doing really well with combining functions into complex ones. However, finding the range was more difficult for her. We went over and wrote down some specific rules for finding the domain and range which hopefully should cover all of the types of problems she will see on the quiz tomorrow.

The student and I spent this session working on an extra credit assignment for his science class. He seemed to know it well as we went through the sheet. We spent the remainder of the session reviewing math for a test he has in that class tomorrow.
