Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on some review problems with circles and triangles, including some proofs and constructions. Some involved area formulas. She is going to email me her review sheets ahead of our session next time."
"Today we went over Pythagorean triples, 45 45 90 triangles, 30 60 90 triangles and how to find unknown sides in those triangles. The student has a quiz tomorrow that I feel she is prepared for as long as she memorizes the ratios associated with those triangles. We also reviewed using Pythagorean theorem to determine whether a triangle was acute, right, or obtuse."
"The student has a test coming up on Thursday, and we went through a packet of worksheets. The problem sets required her to solve for side lengths and angle measures by using the properties of parallelograms, rectangles, rhombuses, squares, and kites. She was also asked to use ratios to calculate angle measures in a quadrilateral and then determine if any of the sides were parallel. We reviewed the distance formula, perpendicular slopes, and solving a system of linear equations. As always, she had a great attitude, along with exceptional algebra skills for solving equations."
"We worked on triangle inequality theorems and proofs. The student did a great job. He should remember to review old terms (complementary, supplementary) and to sketch the picture of the situation the word problem is talking about when working through word-problems and proofs."
"Today, we covered topics in Geometry involving finding the area of different complex shapes in preparation for an upcoming quiz. We also found the shaded area in some of these shapes. We looked at percent error formulas, formulas involving scaling ratios, and the areas of polygons inscribed and circumscribed in a circle. The student just needed reinforcement of the material she had previously learned with some clarification on certain things. Although she was initially unsure of the material, she remained positive and determined to understand it better. We went over problem solving strategies for the upcoming quiz. I left her to memorize the sine and cosine chart, as it will be helpful for Geometry as well as later math courses. Overall, she is a highly motivated student and a pleasure to tutor."
"We covered homework involving finding elevation and depression angles and using trig to determine the lengths of legs or hypotenuse. We will need to work on basic algebra techniques."
