Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we reviewed solving systems of equations in a coordinate space. As well, we spent some time looking over the student's grades, and concluded that she will end this term with a B+. This is a decent increase in her grade from when I started working with her."
"The student and I met to study for her pre-calc final test. She doesn't have to take a comprehensive final, but she does have her final test in pre-calc this week. We reviewed together and she felt a lot better about most concepts after working together, but she still has to review a couple things on her own."
"The student and I reviewed for his final. We went over his last two quarter tests and talked about how to do each problem. The student knows that he must look at the formulas again before the test."
"This session, I helped the student with her homework, which was mostly review material. We spent a good chunk of time on how derivatives affect the shape of a function. The extra time was needed since the student has struggled with graph-type problems in the past, so I made sure to cover the concepts thoroughly at the cost of not completing the entire homework set. Since our last session, the student has made progress on remembering when to use the chain rule, although she still needed prompting about product rule."
"The student and I worked on problems involving finding the sum of geometric and convergent series. This took recognizing the common ratio from a listed sequence and determining the initial term. We could also find any given term of the sequence. Because many of these relations and formulas I saw that it helped the student to write down the general form first."
"In this session, the student and I went through properties of logarithms and used them to solve equations and word problems, such as half life and compound interest problems. He initially didn't understand the concepts, but once I told him the main rules to follow, he grasped the concepts and was able to lead the problems to algebra, where he knew how to do them. I also advised him to study the definition of a log and other rules so he could make the problems easier. I left him to continue to study for his exam on Friday."
