Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed critical reading practice, worked on finding main idea in answer choices to eliminate them more easily, clarifying subtle contrasts; discussed essay portion of test, how to approach it, and what to aim for."
"The student had taken a practice SSAT test during the break so we went over it. He did great on the simple solving operations/calculations/critical thinking parts of the test. However, he seemed to struggle with very basic solving equations (solving for x or n). He was shown two different ways to find x for very basic equations. I also left some additional homework for him to do and check before the test. We have also covered several test taking strategies such as time management, elimination before guessing, etc. It is recommended that he should try to solve at least one more practice test to apply some of the strategies we discussed."
"As usual, we reviewed last session. The student always goes back to his notes and brings detailed questions. After that we discussed further verbs, we worked in connectors and adverbs that are used to complete certain sentences and we started talking about commands and subjunctive, which we will work on next session. "
"Practiced questions from reading and vocab sections. Worked on vocab under time pressure, and defined unfamiliar words. Focused on detail-oriented questions on reading section. The student will work on learning unfamiliar words from the flash cards and those we looked up during the session. I asked him to define all other unfamiliar words he came across in his prep book before next session. He will also study the sheet of math formulas I gave him, particularly geometric formulas for circles and rectangles."
"Today we went over the relationship between wavelength, frequency, and speed of a wave. We covered the concept because they went over a lab today. So she had already used the formula that they needed."
"We went over 2 ways to use the present tense, 3 ways to speak in the past tense, and 2 ways to use the future tense, mostly for review. Then, we moved to speaking questions about media and environment in the student's life and her opinions on them."
