Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Student did an awesome job today. Today we worked on chapter 6 and reviewed for his final. We worked on similar triangles and congruent triangles. He did an awesome job. To review for his final we worked on problems all the way from chapter 1 to chapter 6 in the chapter test in his book. He passed his last test."
"In my first session with the student we discussed her goals for the SAT, her test anxiety, and the best approach for studying. I had her take a vocabulary quiz and do a practice Reading section, and she seemed adept. Then we went through techniques for Sentence Completions, and did sample questions together. She seemed very engaged and focused, and said that this manner of learning was really helpful."
"The student and I worked on his long vowel consonant blends such as: ai, oa, ay, oy, oi, ee, ea, etc. We read for comprehension and motivation some Time for Kids magazines to improve his vocabulary and check for understanding. We are going to continue working on phonics explicitly and reading for comprehension. "
"Met with both parent and student. Reviewed the curriculum and had a lesson plan laid out for the student to review. Discussed and reviewed questions regarding quadratic equations, word problems, sigma notation, binomial functions and other parts of this years syllabus. We were able to generate a plan in regards to what to study for the next 3 weeks before the students exam and put in place. Left that session with the ideas of what to be studied at the following session and all tests and quizzes were copied in order to generate a lesson plan for future tutoring session."
"The student and I reviewed her test. She is to the point that she is catching her own mistakes which is great! Now, we are working on slowing down as well as labeling the troublesome questions as she goes, so she can go back and check them more easily."
"Today the student and I worked on the calculus that she previously did not understand. She had an assignment we went over to find the limit using L'Hopital's rule. Next, we worked through some more problems to determine if a series was convergent, had an upper bound, was increasing, and how to prove those ideas. She is doing well, but sometimes needs some clarification or someone to work through the problems with her. We looked at what she will be studying next, which are probabilities."
"The student and I worked over webcam to organize one of her term projects, a sample 3-day curriculum plan for preschool. We decided on a theme, brainstormed activities to fit the lesson requirements of each day, and fit those activities into each day's schedule. We also created a list of supplies that we will need for the project. Finally, we planned to meet on Sunday to start making samples to go into the project binder. It was a productive session overall!"
"Tonight we looked in more detail at the structure of the practice test: the types and amounts of questions within each subject, the number of sections, and basic instructions. We discussed strategies for the overall test. We also focused on the Critical Reading subject. We went over some strategies for the sentence completion and reading passage questions. We worked examples of both types together, then I had her work several sample questions on her own. We reviewed these together. I told her to begin keeping a list of all the vocabulary words she comes across in the book, which she should then use to make note cards for review. Since she will probably not have time to do an entire practice test between now and our next session, I told her to complete the 3 Critical Reading sections under timed conditions for next time."
"Very good lesson, the student and I talked in Spanish for a while and he even came up with some questions in Spanish. He continues to make progress. We continued working on words from the chapter and also learned about indefinite and negative expressions."
"Began by reviewing Reading section homework: in-depth review of simultaneous short passages. Continued to field easy to medium difficulty math problems from previously assigned homework and a new math section. Finally, spot-checked writing homework and completed a new 14-question writing section."
"We read an article about the currency exchange issue among many countries. We also read an article about Gini Coefficient, interpreted the meaning of it and how it differs between countries, mainly focusing on China."
"The student and I began the session with a cursive handwriting review. The student completed lesson 9 in her take home summer language book. The focus of the session was writing a business letter. We then completed lesson 29 in her take home summer math book. The lesson focused on multiplying 2 digits by 3 digits, fractions, and long division. Lastly, we practiced reducing fractions, changing fractions into mixed numbers, and adding fraction by finding the common denominator."
