Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed stacks and queues, and the differences between them. We looked at the Java API for stacks and queues, and their required methods. She put together some example code for an assignment that required the use of a stack, and looked at two different ways to implement a stack. Finally, we covered Java's File and FileInputStream classes in order for her to read in files, as required in the assignment."
"The student and I tried to figure out texturing OpenGL objects. We implemented some example code from his notes into his already existing code, but the rendered cube was pure white (no shading or texture). I suggested he try running the self-contained example code in its own file to test if that works, before integrating it into his code."
"The student was struggling with the mathematical concepts behind mathematical modelling. I asked him to do practice differential equations and Fourier series before our next session so we can proceed to model them on Matlab."
"We worked on an assembly assignment tonight. The student is sharp and understanding. He showed me the jar file, pdf, and sample code. We then went through some of the instructions on the pdf and will tackle the code on our next session."
"The student and I installed a runtime environment for this session, which allows him to host local websites for internal testing, and also gives him access to a PHP interpreter. He then completed a project that took the input from a form generated in a previous session. The solution for the form submission was to simply generate a thank you message using elements from the form."
"Tonight the student and I worked through her Microsoft Access assignment. Together we worked through her assignment to build a table database with specified data types, field sizes, and notes. She was definitely getting the hang of it by the end of our session."
