Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over the math practice passage. We talked through strategies for solving these questions. At the beginning of our next session, he will have a quiz on: Pythagorean theorem; Special triangles; Formulas for area and volume and surface area; Equations of circles and lines; Exponent rules; Log rules; Distance formula; Tan, cos, sin; Parallel lines and how the angles relate; and FOILing and factoring. He will familiarize himself with his notes this week. He will also complete the math passage and sign up for an ACT date."
"We covered some of the more advanced math problems that will be faced on the ACT. The students were left with practice problems for the science section, which will be our primary focus over the week before they both take their first test. After the first exam, we will continue with an emphasis on math, science, and English, but still make time for the reading comprehension section. Practice problems were provided for next time."
"The student and I started his session going over new and old vocabulary words. Left him with more words to memorize. Also asked him to make a list of all words he comes across that he is unfamiliar with. We made some personal connections to several of the words to help him remember their meaning. Reviewed the English portion of the ACT exam, including verb agreement, singular verbs, plural verbs, nouns, and pronouns. Reviewed participles (present, past, future). Did 10 ACT English exam questions. He did extremely well in that portion of the session. Next we reviewed a few math formulas, and I had him complete several actual ACT exam math problems. He needs a bit more math confidence, which I am trying to instill in him."
