Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed a section in the reading program. He also wrote a composition about a photography contest. He completed several sections about punctuation on the learning website. He also read from the book Captains Courageous."
"The student did a great job. Today, we focused on rewriting equations. I explained to her the purpose of rewriting equations and that the rules for manipulating the expressions are always the same. She understands now to combine terms on the same side, and she understands that to move a term, she needs to think about what operation that term is in relation to the variable for which we're solving. She understands that when the coefficient is a fraction, she just needs to multiply by the reciprocal. We did many examples of rewriting equations, and then we tackled word problems where rewriting equations comes in handy. We also reviewed that a negative number and fraction/decimal cannot be in the denominator of a fraction; it's not in simplest form until those are dealt with. She did a great job."
"The student did a short quiz, and then we continued working with logarithms. We viewed a 4-minute video introduction to calculus online. His homework is to continue with the log worksheet and view the first 4 Calculus intro videos so we can begin studying limits next session. I would like him to scan the problems he does for homework and email them to me the night before the sessions so I can see his work."
"The student did awesome at his lesson today! We went over his reading comprehension worksheets and discussed the mistakes that he made and what the correct responses were. We also went over long multiplication and long division. Overall, he did an awesome job with the reading comprehension, and I think that one of the aspects that we will focus on will be proper grammar and spelling. As far as the division and multiplication go, he is much stronger in division than multiplication. I think that the reason is that he found a method that makes sense to him. We will continue to practice long multiplication and we will start to focus on multiplication tables in our future lessons. He has some awesome strengths, and I'm looking forward to helping him feel more comfortable with other skills!"
"The student did excellent and was engaged the entire time. To start, we did a mini-lesson on adding fractions with unlike denominators. Although she said at first that she didn't remember how to add the fractions, once we went over the method she likes to use, she remembered and was able to apply it with ease. She completed the 10 adding fractions problems correctly, and simplified them all perfectly. To change it up, we did a review of area, perimeter, and identifying triangles. She did forget about the dividing by 2, but after a few practice problems, she got the skills down again. This review will help to keep these skills current."
"The student does very well in most sections of the material. I have noticed struggles in multiplication, averaging, and place value. His mom is going to make sure he works on that. We are meeting on Thursday to create a study strategy."
