Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I practiced complex multiplication and division problems. She had 2 science homework assignments that we reviewed together and submitted to the teacher through the online portal."
"Today we went over heat transfer in lossless systems, thermodynamic laws, ideal gas law, test-taking strategies, studying strategies, and other concepts related to heat and energy."
"We went over various problems including dimensional analysis for length, weight, mass, and time as well as with area and volume problems. The student is doing very well and progressing quickly."
"We generated a fake dataset in Excel using a random number generator that reported activity, weight percentile, blood pressure, and glucose. We then used this data to conduct a linear regression analysis and interpret the results. The student will further modify the RNG chart to suit her needs and use it to practice various statistical analyses."
"For chemistry, the student and I reviewed for her upcoming quiz about periodic table trends: the trend of atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity across a period and down a group. We explained the change across a period and down a group based on the addition of protons and shells which lead to the change in the attraction force between the nucleus and the valence electrons. We also discussed the definition of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ionization energy and explained how they change for each element based on their position on the periodic table. For SAT math, we first reviewed her assignment on midpoint formula. We then learned different types of angles, and their names and characteristics (supplementary, complementary, vertical, corresponding, alternate interior/exterior, consecutive interior). We worked on an angle worksheet in which we calculated the unknown terms and the missing angles. She has two assignments: 1) angle relationship (all even problems), and 2) special triangles."
"I critiqued and proofed the student's key notes that he will hand out to the class on Tuesday before his presentation. He presented his PowerPoint slides to me for the first time today, and then we went slide-by-slide to work on wording of the presentation. He is going to practice a lot tonight, and work on the wording specifically for four different slides that he is having trouble with. He needs to work on connecting each slide to the main concept of the paper. He presents on Tuesday."
