Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The tutoring session focused on helping the student solve questions from his Geometry Final Review sheet. I believe the session helped him improve both on his algebra and geometry skills. I left him with flashcards and review problems to study in preparing for the final."
"We went over a variety of problems involving the geometry of different pyramids. This required a review of the concepts of surface area and volume as well as triangular geometry."
"Began review for Final Exam. The student's teacher gave him specific sections to study from two books. We are studying Transformations, Basic Trigonometry and Triangles, Polygons, Circles, Pyramids, and Prisms. I instructed him to create "cheat sheets" with formulas, theorems, definitions, and major proofs for his own quick referral. We worked a number of problems and reviewed several proofs from past lessons. I was pleased to hear that he made an 89 on his last exam covering Prisms and Pyramids."
"Discussed properties of ratios and proportions. Examined how to set up and write ratios. Looked at relationship between ratios and proportions. Tried word problems to see understanding. Will follow up with more questions to check for progress on understanding proportions."
"We went over proportional triangles and how to use ratios to solve for each side. We talked about how to set up triangles from the picture given, particularly triangles with a bisector that creates two triangles. We also talked about study skills and that math requires doing a lot of practice problems. We also talked briefly about making time to study and having few distractions. I suggested she create some problems herself and then do them with friends and have the teacher check over them. The student was struggling with how to set up problems. She understood the math behind the problems. We did a few problems for more practice but she still seemed to be struggling some. I think having more defined steps to solving these problems would be very helpful. Overall, the session went well."
"The student struggled to work on word problems that applied to angles of elevation and depression today, but I was able to teach her to identify the wording associated with each angle. She reports having a test this week on both sections, and I was able to assist completing her homework today. She also reports that she received a 100% on her last quiz which means that her overall grades in the class are improving."
