"The preterite tense was covered today. The student practiced the conjugations of several verbs in preterite tense. He did some exercises choosing between the preterite versus the imperfect. He knows when to use the preterite tense and he knows how to conjugate the different verbs."
"The student finished his text generator project, which now accounts for punctuation and spacing. On his own he may try to get it to always begin with a capitalized word, but his code is currently functional and satisfies the instructions he was given. He will spend time on his own today learning about SQLite."
"I feel like we covered a lot today, and tackled some mechanistic problems. Enolates, alpha alkylation, Grignard reagents, and cupro lithium reagents were covered."
"The student and I met for the first time yesterday morning, and I believe that we had a very good session. I had already spoken with her parents to some extent about what we were hoping to gain out of our sessions together, and I set about this by first being forthright with her about her goals, and then setting about getting down to business on a first-session diagnosis. She certainly has the ability to score much higher on the test than she has been, and so one of things we need to identify with and work on that seems clear to me is why she is extremely capable when practicing, but not performing up to that level on test day. While it's important that we address those issues, they are something that can come in time, and so yesterday I really mostly got a feel for who she is as a test taker, her capabilities for the test (of which there are much), and as a person. She is extremely pleasant to work with and I look forward to continuing to do so."
"We covered a review of chapter two, program improvement, and Unix commands to generate strings. The student was attentive and active during the session."
"We focused on the math and quantitative portion of the HSPT test. The student was already good on the quantitative part of the test, so we focused more heavily on the math section. He performed well on all the math questions. One thing he has to watch out for in the future is that he sometimes chooses an answer too quickly without realizing the full context of the question. This can lead to him getting points off for questions that he would have been able to solve otherwise. I believe that with continued self practice and tutoring, he can score very high on the HSPT test."
