Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student reviewed several Reading question types and completed practice passages utilizing them. We then went over the Essay, how it is scored, what they look for, and planning tips. She wrote an outline for a sample prompt and we went over a sample student response that received the highest possible score. Her outline was excellent and covered all of the bases. Last, she completed five Science passages while I timed her. She is very close to the ideal time, but we will continue working on shaving down her time while not sacrificing points."
"We went over in-class Quiz 3, covering regression. We went over the different variables involved (binary, numeric, count, and duration) and the different regression models (logistic, ordinary, Poisson, and survival). We talked about how to interpret the regression results including the estimates and p values."
"During today's session, the student completed a practice math test. She also completed some reading and vocabulary questions."
"Today we worked through entire sections of a practice SAT, since we're now entering the home stretch! The student is doing a really excellent job employing her new strategies and skills, and she has clearly improved a great deal since last spring! She is very confident and accurate on the reading and writing sections, so we'll be working mainly on ironing out some kinks in the math section. She is getting very high percentages on the practice sections, so we're mostly focusing on little minor errors and some of the most difficult problems in the sets. She is going to complete a timed math section for us to go over tomorrow during our afternoon session. Keep up the good work- almost there!!"
"Today, we reviewed a test that the student had taken. The only reason her score was a bit lower than normal was because she had a very hard time with one particularly tricky logic game. After working through the game, she seemed to feel much better about her performance, and she has been scoring at her goal in all of the tests that she has taken since."
"Went over practice tests to discuss questions wrong. Looked at the specific details/word choices and what they meant for the question. Took time to read carefully. Discussed different methods that the student might try to see what helps best in keeping track of details. Reading is generally improving."
