Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked through some math practice sections and reviewed exponents and special triangles. We also reviewed some basic arithmetic concepts dealing with inequalities, absolute value, and averages."
"This was our last ACT prep session. We focused mostly on math, learning how to set up problems and recognize the Pythagorean theorem. We also went over several science passages, with which he has shown huge improvement."
"During this session, the student and I worked on fact and opinion. He is able to identify what a fact and an opinion is, but still needs more work with being able to justify each one as it relates to reading. We also worked on some addition and subtraction problems that he rushed through the last time."
"The student and I reviewed her application. We checked for errors and corrected mistakes. I assisted her in finishing the application. Then I went through two of the essays that accompany the application. I checked for errors and we talked about different ways to make her ideas stronger."
"The student learned new vocabulary of objects, colors, sizes and location of things "encima de" "debajo de". and numbers from one to one thousand. Progress achieved: He would be able to describe objects saying color and size "grande, pequeno" and the map by saying locations of places."
"We spoke about what the student is reading (and not reading) at this time, and about his work and what he does during the workweek. We reviewed separable and inseparable prefixes in "Klaro," then worked through several exercises relating to sentence word order, separable prefixes and past participles. We discussed a poem by Christian Morgenstern that he had discovered (Der Werwolf) and talked about this poet, and Mark Twain's The Awful German Language. Then we looked at the latest article in Deutsche Welle, on the satirical magazines of the 19th and 20th century, and found much to explore there. For next session he will work through the rest of Chapter 3 of Klaro, examine the poem/ folksong "Die Brucke von Stein" that I sent him a link to, and review the article on satire for more conversation next time."
