Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This morning we went over averages and moving averages with respect to integrals. We spent some time having the student figure out a general understanding of moving averages beyond memorizing the formula. We ended with the business applications of integration in the form of consumer surplus and producer surplus. He seemed comfortable with the general idea of both concepts and he will be spending more time understanding the formulas behind them."
"We started working on integration problems, or rather antiderivatives within a specific interval. We had time to go through the conceptual problems and were able to finish most of the conceptual-based example problems within the section."
"The topics covered this session were: solving algebraic equations by expanding and factoring terms, implicit differentiation, chain rule, and product rule. We've come to understand what aspects of differentiation causes the most error for computing derivatives."
"Today the student and I covered a few different topics from his study guide for his final. We started with Compound Interest, and I went over some logarithmic/natural log rules with him. We continued with some derivatives, and covered derivative rules for the exponential function, as well as the natural log again."
"We reviewed rules of logarithms and equations involving them. The student had a clear understanding of the concepts, but just needed additional practice to readily identify which concepts to use in certain situations. We went over various problems; all of which he was able to perform with little assistance after review. We also reviewed his previous exam and went over corrections. He was most concerned about constructing rational functions based on graphical information. I showed him some simple steps to apply when approaching such a problem and he had success using them."
"We worked through a problem set focusing on applications of integration, including probability density and weighted averages. Overall, the problems were understood, with a couple hiccups in between that were resolved in time."
