Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed his math homework assignment independently before our tutoring session began. The assignment focused on the identity property of multiplication and number/expression comparisons. We spent the beginning of the session reviewing the problems he missed. I prepared a few practice questions similar to his assignment to ensure he mastered the concepts. We then continued to hone his multiplication and division skills to keep him challenged and moving forward in math. I taught him how to multiply single-digit and double-digit factors (ex: 46 x 7), and he performed several practice exercises. He was able to grasp the concept and prove mastery very quickly because of how well he knows his multiplication tables. We played an interactive game for the last ten minutes of the session to practice division facts."
"The student completed the Chapter Test in the book. She has a solid handle on the chapter. We went ahead and started with the introduction to Algebra, which is chapter 2-1, and we completed some problems in that section. She doesn't know when the test will be."
"The student continues to show steady academic progress. We worked on having her recognize more sight words and to practice writing them. Her fine motor skills and printing continue to improve. We read the book Alexander Who Used to be Rich and discussed the illustrations, the plot and the concept of money/saving. We did a worksheet where she had to solve math problems then color (using a code) based on the answer. She said she enjoyed solving math problems that way. We also practiced the months of the year in order, and she used a calendar to practice reading the months."
"The student created her own multiplication cards. Her cards are being used a tool until facts are learned. Good session tonight. Work done in increments of 15 minutes. We did word problems, as well. Student is learning to draw from previous knowledge to solve new problems. We will continue with work on Saturday morning."
"The student did a fabulous job with the rounding (tens and hundreds) flash cards. Even during our "speed round." She did well on the math and reading worksheets I previously left her for homework. We also reviewed spelling for her school assignment and read a short story on energy, for which she answered comprehension questions. She has two pages of reading homework and one part of a page for math that is due to me next session."
"The student did a great job going through fractions, decimals and percentages. The main thing that she needs to continue working on is word problems and fully comprehending what it is asking before she attempts to solve it."
