Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over several of the main themes and motifs of Lord of the Flies and went more in depth with chapters 4-6."
"We began our literary and historical analysis of Beowulf. The student continues to have a problem with his motivation for tackling the materials, so I attempted to remedy that by presenting him with visual aides which seemed to help."
"Worked on subject/predicate identification, parts of speech, some progress with understanding certain POS (can easily identify nouns, verbs), but still needs to work on fluent identification of others (e.g., adjectives vs. adverbs, prep phrases, etc.). Will review these concepts and begin work on verb tenses and direct/indirect objects next session. Left student with review materials for winter break."
"The student and I spent the session getting to know each other. We covered a variety of concepts, including structure/ organization, time management, writing a thesis, constructing an argument with claims, reasons, and evidence, and online research tools. We focused on reviewing his outline for a 12-15 page research paper. Then we refined the thesis statement, and began searching for sources using Google Scholar. I gave him my copy of ''The Craft of Research,'' and several outlining worksheets."
"The student and I spread our focus around to several different tasks over the course of this session. We first completed the outstanding assignments for his supplemental American Sign Language course as best we could. We then took care of a few written response questions for his science class that had been assigned earlier in the week. Finally, I reviewed a PowerPoint presentation that he had put together for his social studies class. Here, my primary contributions were to re-format some of the text of the slides and help him research the remaining pieces of information he needed."
"The student and I started by going through his backpack. We went through some of his papers to find his science assignment. In addition to this, we worked on an ELA assignment. I taught him the subject of the assignment. After I explained some techniques, he was able to complete the assignment."
