Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"1) We examined a rough draft of his letter, written in essay format, which was a revision from a previous session. He did good work. 2) We quizzed vocabulary words from our previous meeting. He was assigned to write the definitions for seven vocabulary words. He's been given Greek and Latin root words from a website to study, and next week I will quiz him on the words. 3) We worked through math from his exam practice book. He was able to compute 5*4*3*2*1 = 120 with no difficulty. He enjoys math and has a good deal of talent."
"I did vocabulary practice with the student from the SSAT review book. We will continue with more next Saturday."
"Today, the student worked on finishing up his "Development of Writing" project. The teacher had lowered the minimum page limit from 3 to 1, so he edited and I reviewed his paragraph on writing and then he created a timeline of Mesopotamia's history. After we were done with that, he worked on a short Spanish assignment and then finished up the session with math. He is a great writer, and he was motivated to do well."
"We went over nouns, plural nouns, singular nouns, singular possessive, plural possessive, irregular plural nouns, and collective nouns. The student did well with most of her nouns. Many other words are just words that need to be memorized, like "ox," and "oxen." We set up flashcards with transitions."
"We reviewed spelling words for test tomorrow and completed spelling homework. Then, we practiced 2x2 multiplication on the whiteboard. Then, we reviewed the science concepts of gravity, gravitational force, and different forms of energy."
"We had to go over long division problems again after reading word problems. We need to go over multiplication tables that are higher than 12x tables because I believe that's impeding her from completing the division. She did a much better job adding detail to her essay concerning The Terrible Two since she had a copy of the book. I edited her writing while she worked independently."
