Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The session went very well. The student worked on her homework: new vocabulary dealing with social problems and voluntary work. Some of the exercises were fill in the blank, some were matching exercises, and others she had to answer questions about voluntary work and publicity. It was fun."
"The student and I worked on his newly assigned homework which consisted of a worksheet that contained a brief paragraph comparing two brothers who are very different from one another. I had him read the paragraph aloud in Spanish first, sentence by sentence, followed by English translations. He did a great job, I then had him complete the 3 writing/reading comprehension activities afterwards and we went over them. I made necessary corrections but they were few and far between because He has really been thriving. Afterwards I had him conjugate reflexive verbs as it will be covered in the next lesson. Finally, at the end, I quizzed him on all the new vocab that we learned this evening. He is crushing Spanish 3 so far!"
"The student had a test on Thursday in Spanish, so we spent the whole session studying. I quizzed him on his nationalities, and countries/ capitals. Then we went through a ton of verbs, practicing their meaning and also the verb conjugations for preterite and irregular verbs in present and preterite form. I think he will do just fine on that test!"
"The student let me know that she felt her Spanish test went well, although it has not been graded yet. For the hour and a half we worked on Spanish, she finished all of the workbook assignments that her teacher has given out so far. We worked on proper pronunciation, translation from English to Spanish and vice versa, and direct and indirect objects in Spanish. I broke out how direct and indirect object pronouns work in both Spanish and English, so she could better grasp the language. I highly recommend flashcards in the future to catch up on the vocabulary. She is doing very well since our last session."
"The student took his Spanish test, and finished in record time. He felt very confident about his performance, and given our first session, I am sure he did very well. After his test he worked on translating some phrases from Spanish to English. He did this with relative ease, only stumbled by a few words that had various meanings and/or forms in either language. We reviewed the verb "like," and he is going to work on an activity that requires him to identify and match the "like" verb in Spanish. He has such an excellent disposition and ethic when it comes to his work. He is so honest and not trying to cut any corners. I am concerned that we may need to adjust our pace in order for him to finish all the assignments."
"The student worked through a presentation that she was assigned. While working through the presentation we discussed a few different options for finding vocabulary words, checking matching gender and articles, as well as some conjugations in the present tense. The student did a great job correcting her grammatical errors and finding words she did not know, ensuring that the word she was looking for made sense in the context in which it was being used. She had some difficulty with some of the grammar structure and had some questions about appropriate use of different verb tenses. She is eager to learn and seems personally invested in improving her Spanish."
