Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Continued to work with Student 1 on reading comprehension. Introduced words with silent e and adding ing. He needs to work on comprehension. Student 2 continued to work on ABC recognition. She is able to identify some letters."
"The student and I worked on a test prep practice nonfiction reading passage. We took turns reading the paragraphs and summarizing key ideas. We answered two practice multiple choice questions before we ran out of time."
"The student and I worked on math concepts. We worked on solving equations involving variables and positive and negative numbers. He does not have the use of positive and negative numbers in problems mastered, so we reviewed the rules. We also worked on percentages of a number/amount. His teacher taught him how to do the percentage piece using fractions to solve. It confused him, so I taught him how to do it using decimals, which he much preferred and understood. He is still struggling with solving problems using fractions."
"The student worked on her math homework, which was simplifying fractions. She understood the concept/ idea as we worked, and also did well on the math itself. I recommended the use of flashcards and practice of the multiplication tables to help her keep up in this area."
"Both girls continued to work on their practice tests. Student one had a focus on fractions. We explored how to read problems and determine parts of a whole. Student two and I discussed credibility in evaluating sources and determining author's purpose. She was reading a passage where a student is trying to convince the principal to create a composting program. I continue to see growth with each student in the sessions."
"The student did really well. He was articulate, and he was willing to read and look at bigger words, beyond his comfort zone. I was impressed with his willingness to engage, keep trying, and not give up. We did take some "breaks," where I told him history facts, reinforced points, or just told him he was doing well. In short, he has basic reading skills but he just needs to refine them. I think he will be a good student to continue working with."
