Test Prep Tutoring review by Michael in Seattle, WA
Continued my drill of having the student work backwards in the math sections from the hardest to the easiest questions so I could help her on the questions that stumped her. I timed her in one section to give her a simulation of the real testing conditions and she managed her time well. Brushed up on grammar and the error identification questions (parallelism, subject-verb agreement, possessive adjectives, logical comparisons, etc.).

Went over diagnostic SAT II math IIc test. The student is fairly strong in Math, most of the wrong questions early on were simple mistakes or forgetting concepts like the factorial or what "concentric" means.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Rebekah in Seattle, WA
The student and I discussed her upcoming SAT and her greatest areas of struggle. She felt that Writing multiple choice & essays were her areas of greatest need. We spent this session working on the essay. We also used this time to use the same principles to brainstorm for her college essays. The student had an assignment to write a college essay for her English class, and she indicated the need to have help on this assignment. Overall, I feel that the student can improve her essay score by making sure that she takes time to brainstorm carefully and organize details well for better flow. Her tendency is to rush into the writing and not have a logical flow in her writing. The student is to take a practice test using her extended time accommodation before our next session.

Test Prep Tutoring review by Jason in Seattle, WA
During our first session, the student wanted to focus on the ACT math portion. We reviewed about 80 math questions and identified some of the "tricks" the test writers use to make simple questions seem complicated. I also recommended that he skip the difficult questions on his first "pass" through the exam and then return to them at the end.

Went over time strategies personalized for her and again went over math practice problems (focusing on geometry). By the end of the session she seemed to have internalized a lot of the specific strategies.

Test Prep Tutoring review by James in Seattle, WA
During this session, the student and I reviewed SAT RC/Math before moving on to Writing. The prep book provides a nice section on how to attack the writing, so we went through it step by step. The student is relatively strong in this area, so we spent a lot of time doing questions to determine if there were any fundamental grammar areas upon which he could improve.
