Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over the SAT critical reading and writing sections. She showed more comfort with these over math, and her reading speed and comprehension were at pretty good levels. Her grammar is also okay. Her vocabulary needs work, so I encouraged her to read more. As far as grammar, I taught her that she needs to approach the sentences almost like someone who does not speak English naturally because natural English speakers can immediately and intuitively understand sentences that are not grammatically perfect. The SAT Writing, however, demands careful attention to grammatical rules of number agreement and tense agreement."
"In today's session, we developed a practice essay together to reinforce the process, discussing further essay strategy along the way. We also looked over a recent practice ACT the student did well on and tried to predict her upcoming performance."
"This was the first session, so the student and I went through a broad range of SAT practice questions from different areas of math, critical reading, and writing, to assess his strengths and weaknesses. I think he's an intuitive learner and catches on to actual real explanations of the material rather than shortcuts or overly conceptual approaches to the problem. As for now, I will find a vocabulary list for him to work on for the next few days and look forward to seeing him on Thursday."
